Publisher's Summary

A sinner’s only hope is true love in this passionate new novel in J. R. Ward’s number-one New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Syn has kept his side hustle as a mercenary a secret from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. When he takes another hit job, he not only crosses the path of the vampire race’s new enemy, but also that of a half-breed in danger of dying during her transition. Jo Early has no idea what her true nature is, and when a mysterious man appears out of the darkness, she is torn between their erotic connection and the sense that something is very wrong.

Fate anointed Butch O’Neal as the Dhestroyer, the fulfiller of the prophecy that foresees the end of the Omega. As the war with the Lessening Society comes to a head, Butch gets an unexpected ally in Syn. But can he trust the male - or is the warrior with the bad past a deadly complication?

With time running out, Jo gets swept up in the fighting and must join with Syn and the Brotherhood against true evil. In the end, will love true prevail...or was the prophecy wrong all along?

Romance, End of the War and a new enemy

Listened to audio narrated well by Jim Frangione. He's narrated all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and he never disappoints. There were some audio inconsistencies but they were minor.

This latest installment of the Brotherhood is about the end of the war with the Lessors, a tiny peek at the new enemy and Syn and Jo's romance.

Jo is a newspaper reporter who's been a thorn in the Brotherhood's side every since she started a paranormal on-line blog. She's been sick and has no idea that she's a pre-trans as she was adopted after her mother was killed. I liked how she took care of herself and stood up for herself even when scared.

Syn has a need to kill and is a killer for hire on the sly to manage his desires. His father was an abusive bastard and Syn's story takes us from 'he's twisted' to OMG I'm so glad he survived and I'm glad Syn sees who he really is underneath the hard edges.

Butch knows the end of the war is near and starts behaving rashly to protect his fellow brothers. He unknowingly attracts Devina's attention but his love for Marissa prevents her from getting her claws into him. AAAAANNNDDDD the big show down with the Omega happens, you're not going to believe how that all works out.

I liked how Ward wraps up this chapter in the Brotherhood's lives and I'm curious what direction Devina will take future books as she seemed a little off her game from what I read in the ""Fallen Angels' series.

Overall a good read with the romance and Brotherhood arcs well blended. I also loved the cameo moments with Wrath and Beth and the Omega and the Scribe Virgin.

Holy Scribe Virgin

Hoe DOES she do it?! J R Ward has kept the brotherhood rolling with 17 books and this one measures up to one of my favorites serving the stage for new characters and stories to come. Good riddance to some real baddies and welcome to more family connections. Love the ‘young’. Love the good healers as well as those BDB fighters. Read it. Five stars.

The war is over but love carries on

Syn and Jo remind me of how Wrath and Beth came to be. In the midst of traversing an overwhelming attraction they each have their own personal demons to deal with while war with the Lesser Society comes to a rolling boil. JR Ward has flipped my world, once again, and made me gigglingly happy and heartbroken at the same time

WOW!!!!

I loved this book made me laugh, and most of all made me cry. Especially when Wrath got to see LW and Beth. I’m just waiting on what going to happen next with Divina and one of my favorites My Falling Angel Lassiter. I hope JR Ward writes more about the new generation... we’ll need to wait for the Jackal in August ... ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Davina stole the show.

The Dhestroyer prophecy has been around as long as this Series has. I was thinking it was going to be this huge fight this Mega Bloodshed situation. Don't get me wrong, the ways I just ended was great but I thought there was going to be more. Now that I have covered that bit let's get into the fun stuff, Syn.

Syn has always been that character that you really didn't know much about. You just knew that he was a bad boy and that he was doing some shady stuff. Little did we know that he is a Hired Gun. Unlike other Hired Guns though he kind of has morals. I do like the fact that he only takes out people who deserve it. He was actually a really good hero to Jo, the heroine. He courted her And it made her feel as though she is the only one in the world. He kind of reminded me a bit of Zadsit only because he is damaged but he is definitely not a Zadist.

Jo was an interesting character. I know that she has been in previous books however I have not read them. I have not read them because they are not available in audiobook and I am a strictly audiobook girl. Well I am a 97% audio book girl. I didn't know what to expect from Jo aside from what other people have said about her but she seemed a bit judgmental for my liking. Yes, Syn was hired to kill her, yes he is a vampire, but instead of letting him explain she just shut him down. I am glad that she understood her mistake and ended up working things out with Syn but it just seemed unnecessary.

I have to admit that I am obsessed with Davina. I have enjoyed her since the Fallen Angels' series way back when. The type of villainous she is is just breathtaking. Yes, she has done some horrible things but the flare that she does it with just screams best character ever! I may be in the minority about this but I cannot wait to see what mischief she brings to Caldwell. I just think that her and Lassiter are going to have such a wonderful time being enemies.

OH HELLS YEAH!

This is exactly what we've all been waiting for. Jim Frangione better be graced into the Brotherhood, because no one will EVER be able to be the BDB but him. I'm not going to give a single thing away. You're going to live it!!!!

Thank you J.R. Ward

To a fan that has read EVERY book in the Fallen Angel series and Black Dagger Brotherhood series, this book was the best gift ever! Many plot lines were tied up and many more plot lines were opened up. Can’t wait to see the direction you take us in next. I only wish I could find other series that compares to fill my time until you gift us with the next installment. Like many people I am self confined during this horrible pandemic, so an extra special “Thank You, J..R. Ward, stay safe & please keep writing”
