I’m on the fence...

I liked the overall idea of the story. The plot drew me immediately! I thought it would be hunger games with a added kick to it. Well and here’s my dilemma, it did have some hunger game similarities but for R rated audience. They profanity throughout the whole book is OMG!!! Sometimes it’s every other sentence!! There’s mentioning of rape several times and the C word is a constant throughout. There’s even a man on man pleasure scene as well ( just FYI). Then it left us at the end just knowing there’s perhaps a sequel. I don’t know if I can handle another book. I want to know what happens but I hope the author really tames down the profanity. Make the next book young adult cause this one I certainly wouldn’t consider it that! Also very demeaning to women in the book.

It started off a bit rocky but ended up being amazing! Can't wait for the next one

Great story!

Fun exciting story of love betrayal and a noble endeavor against evil forces. very gripping book. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Good romance, okay writing

Probably the healthiest and most realistic relationship I've ever read about in book. I also loved the unflinching representation of non-hetero relationships. The narrator did a great job too.

Some of the writing was a little childish though and a lot of the challenges in the labyrinth seemed a little asinine. The ending felt abrupt. There were a lot of places it could have ended quite well, but the place and sentence the author chose left me feeling a bit dazed, like the last paragraph somehow got left off.

Awesome book!

This book was amazing! I loved the action as well as air of mystery in it and how it keeps you eager for what comes next. There's a great variety of characters and their personalities come through well. I'm not a fan of romance, but I really enjoyed it in this book. It didn't feel forced and I actually found myself rooting it! Nick did a great job of narrating it!

Great bit of fantasy and romance

Really great story that kept me on the edge the whole time! Only complaint is I noticed some lines were obviously ready at different times, possibly in a different place because the sound of his voice would drastically change for some lines. But it only came about a few times, overall amazing work.

Overall a fun listen

In short: A good read/listen overall and kept me engaged. Looking forward to see if there will be a sequel.

The narrator had a good pacing and a good job of inflection. There were a couple of situations where the voices he used overlapped and with the text not always calling out who was speaking it was confusing. But, it was only one or two times that happened.

There’s enough intrigue and mystery going on in the background to keep the plot moving. The characters were unique and the author did a good job of handling so many characters at once.

I’m not going to give anything away. What I will say is there was one trope that was not used which was surprising but also took some suspense out of the narrative (some tropes are used for a reason). While I wasn’t surprised by one of the mysteries I think it was decently handled by the author. One other note is the characters would say “for god’s sake,” and “god damn it” etc... But, this was a fantasy centered around a “one true savior” without any other religious explanations/information. This was confusing because it never explained who this “god” was or why people believed in the god and how the savior fit into that religion.

A cute romance

Firstly, this book is more of a romance than a gladiator blood bath. I feel like people will be disappointed if they are looking for an action packed story. But the romance was really cute and believable. I was rooting from them to get together after their first few interaction. The action scenes were fierce and powerful. Jenna spared no detail on the sight of blood and gore seen through Tobias eyes. The main characters were well-written and I feel for them when 'shit' happen to them.

The gripes, the length was a bit too long and I think the book would benefit from a little faster pacing. Not sure if it's the writing or the narrator way of reading but the pauses between some words or sentences felt a tad too long. It made dialogues of some characters felt unnatural.

I'm a sucker for good romance and likable characters so I'm curious how things will unfold in the second book.

This is a book to read

This wonderful book is an amazing listen and is worth the cost. The narrator is professional, well spoken, and has an inviting accent. The story is compelling, gripping, and beautifully described.

OMG! In love!

I’ve never read an audible book before, and I’m so glad this is my first foray into the world of listening to books, rather than reading them! The story was excellent (though I unfortunately guessed the twist very early on), and I was constantly on my toes. I couldn’t stop listening!!! Jenna has told an amazing story, and I can’t wait for further iterations! Time will move at a glacial pace until then, haha!
