Story
England, 1904. Two years ago, Captain Archie Curtis lost his friends, fingers, and future to a terrible military accident. Alone, purposeless, and angry, Curtis is determined to discover if he and his comrades were the victims of fate, or of sabotage. Curtis's search takes him to an isolated, ultra-modern country house, where he meets and instantly clashes with fellow guest Daniel da Silva. Effete, decadent, foreign, and all-too-obviously queer, the sophisticated poet is everything the straightforward British officer fears and distrusts.

Publisher's Summary
Rogue. Libertine. Rake. Lord Courtenay has been called many things and has never much cared. But after the publication of a salacious novel supposedly based on his exploits, he finds himself shunned from society. Unable to see his nephew, he is willing to do anything to improve his reputation, even if that means spending time with the most proper man in London.
Julian Medlock has spent years becoming the epitome of correct behavior. As far as he cares, if Courtenay finds himself in hot water, it's his own fault for behaving so badly - and being so blasted irresistible. But when Julian's sister asks him to rehabilitate Courtenay's image, Julian is forced to spend time with the man he loathes - and lusts after - most.
As Courtenay begins to yearn for a love he fears he doesn't deserve, Julian starts to understand how desire can drive a man to abandon all sense of propriety. But he has secrets he's determined to keep, because if the truth came out, it would ruin everyone he loves. Together, they must decide what they're willing to risk for love.

Romantic, hot, & a happy ending?!
I loved this book! So much so that I've actually listened to it a few times now. The relationship between Julian and Courtney is just so endearing and sweet and romantic... I love all the scenes when they are eating pastries together, too adorable! Add to the preciousness some of the most romantic, hottest sex scenes I've ever listened to and suddenly I'm enjoying my hour long commute from work so much more! The narrator is absolutely wonderful, charming and pitch-perfect.

good attempt, but didn't quite make it.
I really liked the series of this author but this, the third in the series I felt missed. The story line had a good start but it was filled with lead characters getting together then fighting over a small occurrence and they split apart. I could see the authors attempt to have the two men ache for each other but it never quite fulfilled. The ending was good how he brings all three books to a conclusion.
I really like this Narrator but in this book his interpretation of the character was a bit off. The lead, Cordney always had a bored attitude. His companion Jullian was supposed to be only 24 but the narrators interpretational voice made him sound like he was at least 60. Jullians voice actually began to draw on the nerves after a time.
Overall the book is worth a listen to finish the series.

My Favorite in this Series, Furlong is Gorgeous
SPECTACULAR
Cat Sebastian never fails to leaving me reaching for another of her books. This whole series has been amazing. Each of the stories is unique, followed no formula, and is completely unpredictable.
Just beyond romantic, watching these guys get together (and making it work) is completely entertaining and hot as hell.
Gary Furlong is like a drug to me at this point, he's my narrator crack and I gotta have more. Damn, he's good. The variety in his characters, all the different accents he does, he's just so good. His Lord Courtenay has got to be the sexiest thing I've ever heard.

Great narration, entertaining story
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I would have liked the narrator to slow his pace a little. The first hour felt a little rushed.
If you’ve listened to books by Cat Sebastian before, how does this one compare?
Yes, I've listened to The Soldier's Scoundrel and Gary's narration was far more robust for that story.
Which character – as performed by Gary Furlong – was your favorite?
Courtney was narrated very well.
Do you think The Ruin of a Rake needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, it was a good end, leave it at that.
Any additional comments?
The story lacked real peril. It was kind of pedestrian and none of the characters were ever in any real danger. It all came together far too easily and for the historical time it was set, it all struck me as entertaining but unbelieveable.

I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!
Let me just say that this is the second book I have read that has been narrated by Gary Furlong. Mr Furlong has one of the sexiest voices I've ever listened to. It's pure honey and velvet! It's hot and it's smooth! The voice he gives Lord Cortenay is pure magic. He does exactly what you'd want a narrator to do-to bring the author's words and his/her characters to life. I have to also give praise to the author. Cat Sebastian. The story is extremely well-written and the sex scenes are scorching hot! Sometimes sexy and erotic and sometimes downright dirty! After reading this story, I know I will be a life long fan of both Cat Sebastian and Gary Furlong.

I adore Cat Sebastian
I absolutely love reading all of her historical romances and I love knowing that they'll have a happy ending. This on was no exception.
If you're looking for a good story that's not overly serious this is a great pick.
This is the first of her books that I've listened to and the reader did a good job. I would definitely listen to more done by him

Oh man did I cry
I relate far too much to both characters. Especially Julian because I've had a reoccurring illness since childhood. If you've got an invisible illness, this story will make you feel worthy of love and care. 💖
The narrator has a charming voice but started out with a few problems modulating their voice for different characters. Don't let that discourage you from listening. They quickly improved and finished strong!
