In the shadows and flames, Primals will fall…

And from the blood and ash, new gods will rise.

What was dreamt.

Poppy was never meant to awaken, and the consequences are devastating and far-reaching, stirring ancient powers from their slumber and transforming Casteel and Kieran in ways even the Fates couldn’t have foreseen. But what that means is the least of their concerns. For now.

What was foreseen.

The Blood Crown has fallen, but what has risen is a far greater danger than they’ve ever faced. From flesh and fire, the Great Conspirator has returned to the mortal realm, and he wants only one thing. They must stop the true Primal of Death before he regains his strength, and it won’t be easy. Even weakened, his influence is undeniable. His power, unthinkable.

Has come to be.

While the future of the realms rests upon them, they won’t stand alone. The gods have awakened—each harboring their own blood-soaked secrets. But they must navigate an unbalanced realm, where every choice—past and present—has the potential to not only undo everything they’ve fought for but also destroy the very bonds that have Joined them together.

For the Harbinger and the Bringer of Death and Destruction has risen.

The original description for this book said this was supposed to be the finale of this series. No, you aren't remembering wrong. That part is now missing from the description. Maybe the last book just got so large they're splitting it in two. I don't mind that.

Spoilers ahead!

What I minded was how JLA totally destroyed Cas, Poppy and Kieran's relationship and Cas was getting ganged up on by BOTH the people who are supposed to love him. As if he's unstable and weak, when Poppy's ego and willingness to go it alone, forcing Cas to stay back when he NEVER once forced Poppy to stay back when she was weaker, etc. THAT means I was on Cas's side all the way. He had every right to feel hurt over their lack of trust, I FELT that lack of trust... He respected and trusted Poppy once they finally got together and put her first without taking away her choices the entire time. She did betray him.

And instead of TOGETHER, as it should have been, and kicking ass together, she went alone, Kieran sided with POPPY and her egotistical orders about it had to be her, only she could do it, only SHE was allowed to sacrifice herself *eye roll*, Cas was a weakness, blah blah blah and how she didn't trust Cas to keep cool when he always put aside his ego and wants aside for Poppy.

THAT part is totally ruining this series that was once my favorite. This book should have been about Cas and Poppy growing as a couple and Kieran being the voice of reason and loved by both, and instead... this?

I'm not even to the end, I know it's another cliffhanger, and I'm devastated their relationship is basically ruined for me right now. Cas and Poppy had their faults, as any good romantic couple does and I even loved how totally focused and unhinged they were on each other, willing to put each other first. But respecting and accepting each other were never one of their flaws! I didn't even mind the Kieran part of the plot, it just added to their love in a different way.

But this... this may have ruined everything for me.

This was supposed to be the finale and I'm disappointed.

No spoilers but I absolutely dragged myself through this book and had to skip ahead of so many of the interactions with Casteel because they way he became an overbearing, controlling, “protective”, condescending (more so than ever before) person grated on me. I just kept waiting and hoping someone would knock him down a peg or a hundred. No such luck. Otherwise I think the plot twists were good and I’ll read the next one because after than ending, you kind of have to. But as a whole the book pissed me off and I really lost a lot of love for this part of the series.

I hate who Casteel becomes

First of all I’m mad I have to wait for another book. The dynamics of my favorite characters went to shiii. I felt the book in the beginning was everywhere. And the ending was trash. It changed how I see everyone and left me sad at the characters that didn’t make it. Ms. Armentrout I beg you to please make up for this book and make the next book worth reading/listening to. I am so mad ugh!!!!

I am so disappointed

This was my least favorite book. It went on and on and said nothing. Very little story development in the first 80% of the book. Then bam, cliffhanger. Not too impressed with this one...

meh

It was a let down. A lot of repetitive information, also how do all the rules apply to all the Primals but Kolis.

Poppy had no brain

To be fair, I feel like I need to know if making Casteel the pinnacle of toxic masculinity was intentional or not. If it was intentional, bravo! If it was not, yikes.
The story? I can get behind a long story. I have loved this series for that. I love the complexity of the characters and the intermixing relationships.
Casteel nearly ruined this whole book for me. Fair? Maybe not. But as a main character, the nightmare that he became in this book took over the entire story. I found it very hard to root for him. For most of the book, I was actually bhoping Kieran &/or Poppy would just put him in his place.

I almost didn’t finish it. Casteel is a nightmare.

I've been looking forward to reading this book for so long and hardly survived its postponement! However compared to the rest of the series it honestly didnt wow me or move things forward enough. The repetitive wording and unnecessary banter was over used and not enough information was revealed or shared amongst the characters. I hope that the next book in the series ties it all together and gives us a satisfactory ending.

Lastly I'd say that the sex scenes could've been cut in half. When an author relies on sex excessively in a story it begins to get annoying and less rewarding to read. It begins to give bad porno vibes vs something tantalizing and realistic of an adult relationship. Overall making me skip through it and getting in the way of what could be a more epic well though out tale.

I know JLA can do better than this and look forward to what she has in store for us next!

highly anticipated bit fell flat

I loved the whole book. Except the horrible cliffhanger at the the end. I have started to believe that these books should come with a warning. Beware of cliffhanger !

Warning! Another cliffhanger at the end.

Soooo there is a “realm “ that is way out of place for this story. Not sure where that came from but ok. Then most of the time it was… are you ok what’s wrong with you and them? I’m ok are you. Then guess what. Still not over. Whatever.

40+ hours of nothing
