Publisher's summary

Look and feel your best by timing your exercise and meals according to your appetite in order to signal your body to work with you rather than against you.

Over the last 26 years, thyroid pioneer Denis Wilson, MD, has trained thousands of physicians on the crucial relationships between the thyroid system, metabolism, and body temperature. He’s heard patients recount their inability to get fit using conventional approaches, and he’s understood their frustration. Based on the latest medical research, Dr. Wilson has created "fastercise", a revolutionary practice that uses brief, strategically timed bursts of exercise to cancel hunger pangs, allowing people to more easily stick to a healthy eating plan and shift their bodies toward becoming leaner, faster, smarter, stronger, and healthier. Fastercise holds the promise of vindicating and liberating many of those who have struggled to improve their fitness, enabling them to transform their lives and reach their full potential.

By combining simple analogies and clear explanations of the physiology of the body’s energy pathways and response to food and exercise, Dr. Wilson reveals how conventional approaches to dieting and weight management can actually fight against the body’s priorities and lead to frustration and poor results. Fastercise is a time-efficient, convenient, and natural approach to powerfully induce the body to burn fat and build muscle in a synergistic manner, leading to surprisingly beneficial and quick results.

In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Wilson lays out simple, practical strategies for combining fastercise with smart eating choices. Fastercise can provide excellent results for a wide range of people: seasoned athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and even those who dislike exercising or have physical limitations. Whatever your fitness goals are, fastercise can help you achieve them.

this book is science heavy, but important...

this book is important and it explains or hypothesized many interesting things. things we should be thinking about. Now how to incorporate it into our lives...the emotional pieces to fastercising 4 to 6x daily and maybe fasting 1x a week for self care, these issues are my next hurdle to tackle! This book inspires me and explains a lot. A unique approach I'd never heard of except in nature. I've only read about how gazelles dont get PTSD after being chased by a lion because the "shake it off", they fastercise. I see my dogs do this too after being scalded. So I believe it can be used as a tool to move through trauma too! Great work Dr. Wilson hes such a wonderful human!! Thank you for your work in WTS and for being a lovely man.

Science not found in the keto and fasting books

This is a thorough science and practical-approach book for those who want to know more about exercise, metabolism, body temperature, and ketosis. The book filled holes in my own knowledge that other books had not. It helped me understand why we might shiver and yawn for reasons not normally attributed to these activities, and why this might be harnessed for weight loss. And left me with new questions about fast exercise and how harmonize our intentions with our metabolisms. Wilson's curiosity about how the body works, and his diligence to understand its function at the edge of what's known, has led to theories which are among the gems of the wellness and fitness genre today. His ideas fit fairly well with theories by Jason Fung, Michael Mosley, Dave Asprey, Josh Axe, …maybe even Scott Carney, Loretta Graziano Breuning, and Daniel Z. Lieberman (each of these authors a piece of a great puzzle). I listened to this entire book in one session. Good narration, as well. Highly recommend!

Note that as of this date there is no pdf supplement, which is referred to in the audio. Sometimes the pdfs are delayed on new books, and I hope it will be available soon.

Could be made simpler

For me, the book contained too much information that did not help make the point. I studied biochemistry and physiology extensivelly, and even I found that some things were made too complicated for no clear reason. Basically, it comes down to doing high intensity exercise when you are hungry or before the meal. I wish more examples of exercises were provided. Overall, this is not a book for people who do not have any previous knowledge in biology. I found it useful since it made me consider doing HIIT before my meals, and also stretching more often.
