Story
The definitive biography of a legendary athlete. The Shrug. The Shot. The Flu Game. When most people think of him, they think of his beautiful shots with the game on the line, his body totally in sync with the ball - hitting nothing but net. But for all his greatness, this scion of a complex family from North Carolina's Coastal Plain has a darker side: He's a ruthless competitor and a lover of high stakes. There's never been a biography that encompassed the dual nature of his character and looked so deeply at Jordan on and off the court - until now.

Publisher's summary
A stranger convinces the coach of a team with a 24-game losing streak to allow him to give a pep talk before they go up against a winning team. The underdog team is victorious because of the influence of this stranger. The pep talk and the actual game are intriguing, but the real story begins 29 years later when the coach, suffering from a brain tumor, discovers the stranger had prophesized specific events that occurred in the ensuing game. Is there a logical explanation? Is there a spiritual explanation? The answers to these questions capture the reader's attention to the very end.

Pistol is more than the biography of a ballplayer. It's the stuff of classic novels: the story of a boy transformed by his father's dream and the cost of that dream. Story
Tony Dungy's words and example have intrigued millions of people, particularly following his victory in Super Bowl XLI, the first for an African-American coach. How is it possible for a coach—especially a football coach—to win the respect of his players and lead them to the Super Bowl without the screaming histrionics, the profanities, the demand that the sport come before anything else? How is it possible for anyone to be successful without compromising faith and family?

Best-selling sportswriter Jeff Pearlman draws from almost 300 interviews to take the first full measure of the Lakers’ epic Showtime era. A dazzling account of one of America’s greatest sports sagas, Showtime is packed with indelible characters, vicious rivalries, and jaw-dropping, behind-the-scenes stories of the players’ decadent Hollywood lifestyles. From the Showtime era’s remarkable rise to its tragic end - marked by Magic Johnson’s 1991 announcement that he had contracted HIV - Showtime is a gripping narrative of sports, celebrity, and 1980s-style excess.

Story
College football has never been more popular - or more chaotic. Millions fill 100,000-seat stadiums every Saturday; tens of millions more watch on television every weekend. The 2013 Discover BCS National Championship game between Notre Dame and Alabama had a viewership of 26.4 million people, second only to the Super Bowl. Billions of dollars from television deals now flow into the game; the average budget for a top-ten team is $80 million; top coaches make more than $3 million a year; the highest paid, more than $5 million.

Story
Endzone tells the story of how college football's most successful and respected program nearly lost it all in less than a decade and entirely of its own doing. It is a story of hubris, greed, and betrayal, a tale more suited to Wall Street than the world's top public university.

Story
From the moment these two players took the court on opposing sides, they engaged in a fierce physical and psychological battle. Their uncommonly competitive relationship came to symbolize the most compelling rivalry in the NBA. These were the basketball epics of the 1980s - Celtics vs Lakers, East vs West, physical vs finesse, Old School vs Showtime, even white vs black. Each pushed the other to greatness - together Bird and Johnson collected eight NBA Championships and six MVP awards.

Great foundational encouragement
What did you love best about The Pep Talk?
The plot flow was odd as it started with the core message, and took a while to build back to proving the point that the core message was applicable not only to football, but to the rest of life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Pep Talk?
The vivid description of the interaction between the stranger giving the pep talk and the football players he was calling by name as we gave it.
Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favorite?
The coach was character of great depth. He had seen the highs of small town royalty and the lows of failing to sustain the mythical strength of "the local team." But he still saw the value in being open and accepting help, and was the first to point out the value that help had for him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
You, too, will be inspired... by The Pep Talk!

Kevin Elko is the best-
I'm a big fan of Kevin Elko. He is one of the best keynote speakers I have heard. As somebody that loves the messages the Kevin shares, I was glad to find this audible. I listened to it and have reflected a lot on the themes of the book.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I love to listen to Kevin Elko's presentations and looked forward to this book being similar. I felt this was way too religious and slow.

Great read! Thanks
As a mom of boys who play sports, I enjoyed this book. I really hope it will become a movie. My oldest is off to college searching for his purpose in life, i know the struggle is real for men transferring from lessons learned on the field to life.
