Kara Everglades has just finished her first year of high school and is longing for an adventure. So far, her only option is an invitation from some upperclassmen to watch them race a bunch of bullfrogs in a ditch. Her grandfather, Cornelius Everglades, is a family legend (and a loose cannon), who founded his own island micronation. Unfortunately, the rest of the world refuses to acknowledge it. Christine Temetri is at her wits’ end. For years she’s covered the increasingly bizarre activities of End Times cults for the Banner, a religious news magazine. Yet Christine, who once dreamed of being a "real" writer, has nothing to show for the gig other than a regular paycheck and serious doubt that Armageddon will occur in time for her next deadline. Story
Three terrorist attacks are launched from freighters against the United States. Only one fully succeeds, but in the blink of an eye all of the country west of the Rocky Mountains is transformed into the technological equivalent of the 18th century - no electricity, no computers, no electronics of anykind, or any of the amenities of modern life that depend on them. This is the story of ordinary and extraordinary people, high and low, who struggle to survive in a mortally wounded nation, as America's enemies within and without circle for the kill.

Cram 10 hormonal teens into a spaceship and blast off: that's the premise for the ill-conceived reality show Waste of Space. The kids who are cast know everything about drama - and nothing about the fact that the production is fake. Funny take on results of todays politics
In this funny take on what would happen if the blue and red states split, when an asteroid is about to hit the Earth, its becomes a political free for all, with 2 Presidents of the United States, one of whom is just a little bit nuts, having to deal with not only the asteroid, but also Canada invading North Dakota, crazy generals, and a wild cast of characters. All in all a funny take on the end of the world novel, and when you find out what the Myoshi Effect is, you will bust a gut laughing.
David Dear does a decent job narrating, moving the story along.

FUNNY TO THE LAST
If you could sum up The Myoshi Effect in three words, what would they be?
What A Trip
What did you like best about this story?
Slapstick parody of power and politics designed to show people at their silliest and worst
Which character – as performed by David S. Dear – was your favorite?
Mr. David Dear does an excellent job with the many characters and accents, which makes listening to the audiobook probably a more interesting and funny experience than reading the book

Dr. Strangelove meets... Petticoat Junction?
It was the best of times, it was the end of times. Just like Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, but nothing like it at all. No, this one's a classic! This is the tale of two Presidents. Of two 'divided' United States. Yes, of America. (Hmm, not such a bad idea.) A Red States President, a Blue States President. Forget any vice president, one of them's got enough vices of his own -- to fill a massive secret cavern 443.2 meters underground in a small town in North Dakota, you might say. Speaking of Vice Presidents, Al Gore makes a brief cameo. How author Jim Yoakum managed to pull that off, I don't know. Connections, I guess. Anyway, I digress. This is the tale of a giant asteroid, hurtling toward earth. In one month's time we will all, most certainly, die.
The Myoshi Effect. Science fiction, or science friction? Friction between two Presidents. Friction between cabinet members. Friction between Countries. Canada at war with the U.S. (or North Dakota, at least). Friction (at first) between the Queen of England (Kate Middleton) and the Canadian Prime Minister. Friction between Queen Kate and the Hollywood tabloids. Friction between a student's lips and a Rocket Pop. Friction between Charles Dickens and... no, wait, scratch that. Anyway, can Doctor Apophis save the day(s)? Will the giant asteroid wipe out all humanity? Would that be such a bad thing? Well, you'll all just have to listen to the audiobook to find out for yourselves, now, won't you!
So, QUICK! Buy this book before it's too late!
If you enjoy a good laugh (and who doesn't?), author Jim Yoakum's the man. I found myself laughing from cover to cover, despite it being an audiobook. All characters brought to life and acted out wonderfully by narrator David S. Dear.

All's Well That Ends... Well! Great Satire!
If you could sum up The Myoshi Effect in three words, what would they be?
Satire, Relevant, Funny
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Myoshi Effect?
There are so many, beginning to end - the dual presidency, the invading Canadian Hoarde, the Owsley, Grace Slick inspired meeting of the leadership. The urine collection... onward and forward. Lampooning extraordinaire!
Which character – as performed by David S. Dear – was your favorite?
The entire ensemble of the story. The delivery and variety of voices. The flow and pace. Well done.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened TWICE back to back! Seriously, I have never done that.
Any additional comments?
If you are easily offended, BEWARE! If you watch what is happening on the news and just chuckle and shake your head or get peaced off then you should this audio version of "The Myoshi Effect".
One of my new favorite humor audio books!

What. A. Trip.
This might be one of the most awkward books I've ever listened to. And I mean that in an endearing way. The Myoshi Effect is a bizarre and interesting satire about the United States, a girl sucking on a rocket pop, friggin Canadians, and many other things that I can't even list here for fear of ruining the book.
If you don't enjoy good satire or a random laugh, then this book isn't for you. But if you like to laugh at the most ridiculous and random things -- this is a great respite from the world around us. The innuendos between the two presidents might be one of the funniest scenes I've read/listened to in a book in a long time.
But, seriously -- Myoshi Effect was good. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I could tell that Yoakum had a point to it all (even if that point was to make the user laugh). And it was the perfect length to not feel drawn out.
David S. Dear does the narration for it giving each and every character (and there were quite a few of them) a voice. Some of them were better than others. I definitely like the general who basically acted like a hype man, some of the Canadian voices (mostly because they made me laugh -- I live really close to Canada), and the two presidents. His narration definitely helped this already ridiculous and funny satire be even more ridiculous and satiristic (even though that's not a word).
I received this book as a gift, and that has not affected my opinion of the book at all.

Goofy End of the World Audiobook
If you could sum up The Myoshi Effect in three words, what would they be?
Funny Crazy Atypical
Would you recommend The Myoshi Effect to your friends? Why or why not?
Most of my friends that like the genera of post apocalypse, dystopian science fiction, and other end of the world stories I would not recommend this audio-book to for the reason this is not for them. This is an audio-book for people who enjoy Monty Python, you need a particular sense of humor to enjoy this audio-book.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene is where the Canadian Prime Minister is explaining to Queen Kate (MIddleton) why he invaded North Dakota. Her rant is priceless.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were no really moving emotional moments for me but I did laugh several times and groan a few times as well.

Of Asteroids and Precious Bodily Fluids
Any additional comments?
Imagine an audiobook where, faced with imminent death and destruction (a humongous 25 million-ton asteroid is careening directly towards Earth), our squabbling politicians all come together to maturely face the threat, all countries unite in a common goal, and the public actually seeks out the expertise of competent scientists to avert the disaster.
The Myoshi Effect is not that audiobook.
Humans are humans, folks, and we don't like to change. We hilariously don't like to change. Those in power remain just as self-serving, clownish and petty---and insane---as always, countries still go to war (you'll never guess the aggressor), the population remains in ostrich-head-in-the-sand denial mode or spontaneous suicide mood, which leads to some outrageous, implausible, crazy scenarios.
The jokes are hit or miss, more slapdash slapstick than dark parody, but with enough hits to keep the all-over-the-map plot moving along. Mix one part "The War Room" scene overseen, not by a wimpish Pres. Merkin Muffley-type, but by a sexually confused General Jack D. ("our precious bodily fluids") Ripper character in Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece "Dr. Strangelove," (although, to be honest, the humor only rarely rises to that level of satire and sophistication) with three parts of "The Three Stooges Have Rocket--Will Travel" and a tiny pinch of "Armageddon" and you'll get an idea of what's on the menu. Expect a lot of name-dropping. Even Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton warrant a brief mention but, in this world, neither wins the presidency in 2016---with side-splitting results.
All in all, an entertaining and different listen. Urine for a helluva strange whiz-bang journey.
The narrator does an excellent job with the many characters and accents, which makes listening to the audiobook probably a more interesting and funny experience than reading the book.

Highly Entertaining Satire Story
The Myoshi Effect is a highly entertaining satirical novel that made made me laugh several times. The book moved along quickly and definitely kept me entertained for the entire duration of the story. There were several parts that had me laughing, and a couple of really uncomfortable parts. The narrator did a fantastic job with this novel. He used an impressive variety of accents, and he voiced all of the characters perfectly. His voice, pace, and tone fit this novel perfectly. I’m definitely glad I listened.

Sweet Myoshi
Any additional comments?
The Myoshi effect is a frightening look at a divided future with an asteroid on the horizon. How to stop it? Listen and ye shall learn. Yoakum crafts a very interesting tale with an equally interesting conclusion.
David S. Dear, the narrator, is great, but his voice takes some getting used to. It fits very well with the style and is easy overlooked.

Eh, not really for me.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
Based on the summary I thought I would enjoy this story. However, while it had its moments, I honestly couldn't really get into it. I think the biggest two things was the narrator and some of the crudeness. It got old really quick.
I also wish the author went more into the why everybody was against Canada or the outcome over North Dakota.
Anyways, it was a quick read, did have some decent satire on recent events. But, in the end, it wasn't for me.
