Publisher's Summary

Author's note: The following story takes place in the same world as my novel Blood Song, the first volume in the Raven's Shadow trilogy. I wrote it because I wanted to more fully explore characters who appear in Blood Song and the sequels Tower Lord and Queen of Fire. Readers familiar with my work are sure to recognize a certain pale-eyed, raspy-voiced Sword Master of the Sixth Order, and those curious as to the origins of the Tower Lord of the Southern Shore will find answers here. The tale takes place at the midpoint of the timeline described in Blood Song, a time when King Janus, with typical ruthlessness, is in the process of further consolidating his grip on the Unified Realm.

Everything but the price

loved story, needs price cut in half snd that would still be on the high side even if a hardbacked novella paying royalties for song lyrics in every chapter!

Good short story

It takes a few minutes to get up to speed but once you do it is a good short story. The main character is well developed while filling in some gaps found in the Blood Song through a secondary character and corresponding events.

Phenomenal narration

Steven Brand's narration once again makes him my favorite narrator! Simply put, he has the perfect voice for this genre of literature.

Not worth the cost.

I love the series but this is not worth a credit. Too expensive doesn't follow

Very good for as short as it s

Not worth the $9 price tag, but still a great short story. The narrative that has been created, first with "The Blood Song" and then with this book is very well executed once you get used to the readers gravelly voice.

Well done

Quick listen that is well written. Ties in neatly with the trilogy. I would recommend it.

Quite surprised.

I’ve read the Raven’s shadow series three times now. I say this not to be boastful but to convey my love for the characters. For every reader who falls in love with a narrative knows the pain that comes with “The End.” I was floored when this novella popped up in my recommended que. it could have costed $30, I would have still purchased it. Well written and performed as always it was a wonderful experience. Please write more of these.

Hard to get into.

I liked Anthony Ryan's other books but I've tried to listen to this book 2 or 3 times and can't get through it. Maybe it's the narrator. But I also think it's the story: politics and divided loyalties don't excite me.
