Publisher's Summary

A lady is nothing without her reputation. Jilted and humiliated by her once-betrothed, Lady Abigail Lacey is the laughing stock of London. Worse still, the humiliation is now reflecting badly on her family. Her brother, the duke of Manchester, is desperate...until he finds a way to rescue his sister’s damaged reputation and remove her from the glare of disapproving society.

He must marry her off. Quickly.

When Rector Joseph Fox drops by the Lacey household, he certainly didn’t expect to leave as a man engaged to a long-time family friend! Yet while he never could have aspired to have her, Lady Abigail always ignited a forbidden longing in him. But Abigail has one condition - their marriage is to be void of passion or physical pleasures once she becomes with child. Faced with a platonic marriage of convenience, Joseph is determined to embark on a sensuous adventure with only one goal: to seduce his new wife....

Just ok

The story was pretty predictable, following a very classic lady gets herself into trouble making poor decisions and male character is too dense to see the truth scenario. The worst part was the narrator. At times she seems to have a lisp and talked in a kind of high pitched monotone throughout the story. Meh. At least it was free.

Decent story but Repetitive

The story had so much potential, but joseph is the most stupid male protagonist ever written. How..how?? Could he not tell that woman was evil??

Good but a little repetitive. Not much intrigue.

I very much enjoy this series but this has been my least favorite of the 1st set of books. I would have preferred the childhood 1st love angle played up more rather than the silly self doubt and ridiculous pact these 2 made. It was aggravating to hear the same internal monologs repeated over and over. Also it was a bit disappointing to know who the culprit was from the beginning. With the lack of a intriguing storyline the author filled the pages with several sexual encounters. These were written in a very classy style but again it was sort of the same thing repeated over and over.

I gave it 4 stars but I think it was more like 3.5 as I never came to like the heroine, Abigail.

Narration was ok but I preferred the women narrator if the 1st 2 books.

Terrible!

Don’t waste your time! I can’t stand weak women and forceful men! The heroine did not have a backbone. I couldn’t finish the book. Why do the low quality books come with the program?

Each one is better than the one before

I loved this book. Much more drama than the previous two in the series and I loved the main characters. So far I’m very happy to have gotten the entire series. Narrator was better than the previous one but they all really do American accents horribly.

Lisp??

This is a different reader than the first 2 books. She seems to have a bit of a lisp, often trailing/overemphasizing the "s" sound. It's a bit annoying.

A different narrator PLEASE

The stories in this series are so good. but I just cannot stand the male voices of the narrator. They are just the worst. I put off reading book 3 because the first 2 were so bad. when I finally got around to listening to this one, I had forgotten how much the narrator bothered me. I really don't think I'll be able to listen to any more books from this series, unfortunately. perhaps I'll try to read then someday.

BOTH MAIN CHARACTERS WERE SO STUPID!!

First of all, how can you not tell who was out to get you?? It is very simple you had to be a complete moron not to see it! .....Both main characters were simply stupid! The fact that she wanted to have sex until she made a baby and then not have sex again was the dumbest thing I have ever heard!
And the fact that he agreed with it made him a complete clown!....

She was one of those characters where everything that happened to her she deserved it in my opinion! I kept saying I hope they knock her out! I hope they kill her! That's what she gets! ....... I did not like her attitude! I did not like the way she treated him when she first started talking to him on the way home from their wedding. He didn't have to marry her.. He didn't want her money and she acted as if he did I just did not like that woman plain and simple!.....

As far as the narrator goes, they went from bad to just as bad! This new narrator has a lispy voice which was very annoying. She was unable to do male voices at all! Sometimes it was hard to tell which female was talking because all of her female voices sounded the same. The book was poorly written and poorly acted. This book has potential for being great, however, the writing is very lazy. not well thought out. It is repetitive, you getbthe back story over and over again..... to much inner dialhlog going on as well!!i Also, it needs a much better narrator. I bought the first books and this book was free I'm trying to finish the series because I like to see things through and I keep hopng that it gets better but it does not seem to be getting better and if I have to buy the next book I will not. I certainly will not give this author another chance if the next book is not good and I have to pay for it.

JEEEEEZ

This novel is joyless and without much plot. It's not worth reading in my perspective.

Pleasant romance series

This is the fourth book I’ve read out of the series - i liked the villain in this plot which added a bit more suspense than the others I’ve read so far. The books can be read out of order too. Worth a go for an easy free listen :)

save your money

The story was OK very predictable , characters bit dull. The worst was the narration it was one of the worst I have heard, maybe a different narrator could help but truly unsure.
it came across as very childlike and a bit silly.

Poor

Duke's sister is jilted by her fiance, an earl. The duke's childhood friend, a vicar, visits. The duke proposes that the vicar should marry her as she is in disgrace and no decent man will have her despite her enormous dowry. The plot is as leaky as a sieve.

An interesting story

I did enjoy listening to this story. It ticked along amidst some unexpected incidents and I pondered how ‘bad luck’ was like water off a duck’s back to Abigail. I guess it’s a reflection of her positive character. The rector was certainly a fine man. These two were well suited.

The narrator did a good job (although I did prefer the narrator of the first 2 books of the Marriage Mart Mayhem series more).

I recommend this book - especially to those seeking an interesting story as part of a good Regency series.
