Publisher's Summary

More demons, epic battles and fights to the death: introducing the unmissable next instalment in the Summoner Trilogy....

On trial for a crime he did not commit, Fletcher must face the Inquisition, who will decide his future. The process is grueling, led by those who will do anything to see him suffer and haunted by ghosts from the past with clues to Fletcher's tragic origins.

But Fletcher has little time to dwell on these new revelations when the king announces a deadly challenge to the graduating students at Vocans. One that involves entering Orc territory to complete a risky mission. With loyal demons by their sides, commoners and nobles, dwarves and elves must overcome barriers of class and race and work together to triumph. The reward: a fortune in gold, the safety of an empire and peace.

With the entire empire watching, Fletcher has much to prove, but there are those out to get him, and it soon becomes clear that there's a traitor in their midst, trying to thwart the mission and create unrest within the empire. With everything stacked against him, Fletcher must use everything in his power to fight his way to victory.

Nice sequence to the Summoner series

In this book Fletcher evolves a lot as character and the plot thickens with a lot of twist and turns. Not only Fletcher but the other “kids” evolve as main central characters in the story.
Very good!

Fantastic Characters, Great Story

I have now read/listened to all four books, on this occasion I read/listened to them in order. However, if you wanted to you could read the Prequel 1st, then books 1, 2 & 3. The correct order is The Novice, The Inquisitions, The Battlemage then the prequel, The Outcast. Although you can read the Outcast 1st, its written to be read last, the reason i think is that although it explains lots, there is also lots of twists, which you may not get if you read it 1st.

Now, the books, fantastic characters, super story line and great twists. I read/listened to all four books in four weeks. I found the story line to be a mix of Harry Potter, meets Lord of the Rings, meets Game of Thrones.

The writer has spent a lot of time, making sure that the story flows. This along with the twists and fantastic characters, makes them a must read.

Great story, poor editing.

This is a really good story. Enjoyed listing to it thoroughly and cannot wait to listen to the next book. However the recording was poorly edited as at several points the reader repeats the same line twice.

Loved it but a bit little character introduction

The book was superbly well written with a story that while sometimes a bit liner to those veteran readers/listeners like my self it still manged to keep me on edge in this book you see the start of a "closer" relationship between Fletcher and sylva which i promise is not cringey it brings the same elements to the table as the first book with a few additions
The narrator is the same as the first book and while Stephen fry is better he is the second best which is high praise indeed
Too conclude the book is a brilliant second installment in the serious and manages too end on a cliffhanger (again)

I am hooked

I am already listening to #3 in this series says something. It is action packed and makes you want to know what happens next. The story line and Fletcher maybe a bit cliché- Fletcher is not the best talent but has the principle of right and wrong, but it is entertaining. It kept my ear pods firmly in place for many hours.

Legal scenes were agonisingly bad. It was great once they were over. Don't give up.

The Inquisition

My kids and I cannot stop listening! I love books that engage both young and old listeners. It’s great to be able to enjoy this trilogy with my kids. One book finishes and the next is downloaded. We are listening to the books instead of the watching tv at night time. The characters are interesting, the story line has some good plot twists and is engaging but not too complex for younger readers. Love it!
