Story
Timothy Walter Bolton - better known as Timmy - has spent most of his life as a necromancer. When he isn't terrorising his enemies, he's plotting inside his castle, which is built on top of lightless chasms filled with nameless horrors and beings of a generally malevolent and megalomaniacal nature. But after one of his latest creations, a zombie hydra-dragon-bear, tries to eat him, he decides that maybe it's time to find a new, less dangerous, career.

Simon is the best delivery boy that Mr Edwards’s restaurant has ever had. He’s on time every time, and he’s gotten nothing but good reviews. But he needs more money. His mother’s medical treatment won’t pay for itself, and his father is already working three jobs to try to make ends meet. But it might just be his lucky day: Mr. Edwards has another job for him. It’s more delivery work, but not the usual kind. You might even say that it’s out of this world. Oh well. Beggars can’t be choosers, and the pay is fantastic.

Birdie Binkowitz is just a little bitter. As a young actress, she was the toast of Hollywood, definitely destined for greatness. Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Publisher's summary
The Hungry Dragon Cookie Company - it sounds crazy, but it might just be Timmy’s ticket to financial security and a fully renovated castle.
To earn a pardon and avoid prison or execution, Timmy, Grand Necromancer and Lord of Black Tower Castle, has been completing missions for the Council with the help of an elite team of truly heroic individuals.
There’s Katie, his apprentice. She’s brilliant, cunning, and maniacally devious. She’s also 10 years old, extremely adorable, and loves billowy robes and the color pink.
There’s Avraniel, the pyromaniac elf who is responsible for more property damage than anyone in Everton’s history (including dragons, natural disasters, and demon gods).
There’s Gerald, the hyperventilating bureaucrat who is at the top of every monster’s menu.
There’s Old Man, a retired legendary swordsman whose hobbies include bonsai trees, fishing, and the occasional duel to the death.
There’s Amanda, ancient vampire and sophisticate who knows all about the Council’s founding because she was there when it happened.
And then there’s Spot. He’s cute, cuddly, and friendly. He loves tug-of-war and fetch. He’s also a fire-breathing dragon who can devour an entire cow in about thirty seconds.
The Hungry Dragon Cookie Company is a collection of 14 short stories that take place before, during, and after the first three parts of The Unconventional Heroes Series. Each story hopes to answer important questions like: How does a company involving cookies and dragons even work? How did a trans-dimensional, protoplasmic horror and a Grand Necromancer become friends, and how did that horror develop an addiction to cake? How does an ancient vampire acquire the comely, young virgins she needs to maintain proper vampiric health without looking like a total weirdo?
Answers to all of these questions and more will be revealed. With unconventional heroes like Timmy and the gang around, life is never boring.

Skip it, and go on to the next full book
I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series, up until this one. Nothing but narrative and reflections. I’ve tried to keep listening, hoping for a plot or storyline, to no avail.
I’ll try the next book in the series and skip the rest of this “in between book”.

Please get to the point
I have been listening to this book for weeks now having to back track chapter's because it's so forgettable or just boring. I can't return it because I already returned one this month. Where are all the good books at? The narration wasn't too bad just a little too screechy for my ears. I've read some really great books so maybe it's time to turn the lamp on and read for myself this app is getting stingy with what's"included"like this one cost me good money. what a gip

A must read...
...if you enjoy the main storyline series as this short tale format really fills some plot/lore holes and gives you a better sense of some of the ensemble characters. I started liking these sort of books while reading the Four Horsemen Universe books.
Randomly found this series and so glad I did...not as crazy funny as Space Team, but pretty close.

An Absolute Blast!
An Absolute Blast! This is a short story collection of stories about the characters currently calling Black Tower Castle home. I think all of the characters were included in various stories, and the stories occurred at different times. Some of them happened before book 1, some in-between books 1 and 3, and a few after book 3. The author started each tale with a blurb to give you and idea on the chronological placement of the tale. If you have enjoyed the books in the mainline story, you will enjoy these short stories. It was absolutely worth the read.

Love it! The absolute best!
I absolutely love this story even better than the first 3! All the characters get time for their own stories even the ninja rats. We learn how Timmy and Sam became friends over cake. We see a different side of Avraniel that makes you go awww. Gerald goes on a holiday to see his family and still ends up in trouble. As always, he can be resourceful even when the others are not there. The Old Man’s story is of finding inner peace with his bonsai plants. We see how James, Vicky and Timmy worked together at the academy. The wonderful Spot makes friends over cookies and make Timmy money. A necromancer threaten Katie and Timmy takes things in hand. Everyone takes time at the beach and build sandcastles and it becomes a competition. Timmy is trying to get Katie to chill just a little. The author's ability to craft very individual characters is illustrated in this book. All in the day and life of our unconventional heroes.

Frolics, japes and fun with zombies
Lots of wee side stories with the usual crew, kicking back, kicking ass and generally larking about. With zombies. Also some monsters.
And magic.

A firm favorite!
Love the narrator’s gift of bringing the characters, dialogue and wit to life - every thing about these stories is fun, playful and entertaining. To cap it all, the author really knows when and how to use “whom” - grammatical bliss!

Story
It was just supposed to be a quick trip to the pet store for some cat food, but the universe had other plans for Florence Valentine. Good for nothing kids and some annoying store employees were giving her a hard time, and then things got worse when she was killed by a delivery truck. Instead of angels, pearly gates, and eternal rewards, a voice in her head keeps telling her that she’s become a dungeon core, whatever that is.

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.
