Excellent

This was such good listening. The story is amazing and the narrator was very talented and did excellent accents. And I didn’t see the twists (well one of them the first was pretty obvious) and I usually do so it always fun for me to be surprised.

Fun ride!

I don’t usually read urban fantasy, but this was the selection for a fun book club and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well-written and engaging. Excited for the next book.

A New Kind of Southern Gothic-Urban Fantasy!

This book is an absolute delight! David Slayton weaves a fun urban fantasy, that’s centered on family and belonging.

Slayton brings a new spin to the Southern Gothic. Our hero, Adam, lives in a trailer park, has to budget his road trip snacks, and is acutely aware of how other’s perceive him. The voice actor for the story does an amazing job nailing the different kinds of Southern accents.

As a queer person who survived the 1990s in the South, Adam’s emotional journey really hit home. I enjoyed the authentic way Adam struggles with his family relationships and himself.

The characters are striking and developed, the twists will keep you listening and surprise you at the end.

I’m excited to dive into book two!

Fresh and intense

This series is a breath of fresh air for those who have been searching for a fantasy series to suck them in and take them for a ride. The writing is confident and the story progresses at an incredible rate; not a minute is wasted. The characters are complex, no one is really “good” or “bad” but a subtle blend that feels authentic.

Unlike a lot of modern writing, which seems to use non-binary love stories as a plot device or to be “different,” this love story feels natural and progresses smoothly. The characters are well-developed, confidently portrayed, and realistic.

Most importantly- clear your schedule and prepare to be unable to put it down til the end!

has the feel of supernatural. I love the imagery the author writes about the characters, creatures, and surroundings. Narrator did a great job. can't wait to start the next book!

Entertaining

This story is amazing and now I need to binge the other books following this character . Great storytelling, interesting characters, and narration that let you fall into the story fully. Definitely recommend

Try it you’ll like it.

Very enjoyable listening. Thought it would be a light-hearted romp on the lot lizard side of life; it was and it wasn’t! Loved the plot twist, didn’t see it coming.

Fun read for the "white trash" in us all

I love this book and series. I will admit it appeals to my "White trash" upbringing being a kid raised my a mother and having a drunk father and all the other cliches. it was a fun light hearted read that moved fast and never got bogged down I hope there are more then just this book. So I think you should crack a beer and give this a listen you won't regret it. Unless like me you hate beer lol Anyway this is highly recommended!

Surprisingly Good!

I was skeptical, as I don’t usually “read” this genre-(Just a question-do you think listening to a title is equivalent to physically reading it? I would love to know what other Audible listeners think!! Comment an answer if you wish!!) Usually I am put off by the cheesy, overly trope-y characters and settings. But this book truly surprised me! Very accessible, relatable, great character development, great plot progression, all around a sweet, heartfelt story. I didn’t give 5 stars only because I reserve that choice solely for Stephen King; and then only if he ever writes one that truly deserves more than a 4.95 (work on your endings, bro!)!! Good read/listen-would recommend.😉
