We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Period Power is a profound but practical blueprint for aligning daily life with the menstrual cycle, to give all menstruators a no-nonsense explanation of what the hell happens to us every month and how we can use each phase to its full advantage. Ninety per cent of people who have periods experience symptoms of PMS, a syndrome which features a wide range of signs and symptoms, and yet there's an enduring lack of understanding about what it actually is and a disappointingly meagre range of treatment options.

Publisher's summary
The goop hormone authority offers an empowering new approach to taking charge of hormone shifts through every stage of life—especially menopause.
When hormonal highs, lows, twists, and turns feel overwhelming, Dr. Tasneem Bhatia can offer a road map—and a whole new perspective. As an MD with an East-meets-West approach to women’s health, Dr. Tasneem (known as Dr. Taz) combines the wisdom of Eastern modalities like Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine with modern medical treatments for whole body wellness.
To Dr. Taz, menopause is not an “ending”; a woman’s entire life is a spectrum of ever-shifting hormones, and menopause is just one point along that spectrum. And hormone levels are a fluid continuum that you have a lot of control over: through your diet, how you sleep, how you manage stress, and more.
In The Hormone Shift, Dr. Taz breaks down exactly what is happening behind the scenes in a woman’s body throughout her life and how almost every aspect of health is connected to hormones—from metabolism to mental health. She explains how to prepare for whatever is coming next, and offers a customizable Thirty-Day Hormone Reset plan that uses a combination of Eastern and Western healing modalities to keep the body in balance and deliver a targeted strategy for minimizing unwanted symptoms at every stage.

Critic reviews
“I’m so grateful that Dr. Taz has given us the gift of this book. It encompasses the kind of conversation so many of us have been eager and curious to have around hormones and aging and vitality. It outlines the information about our bodies that all women should have access to so we can move through hormonal changes with more ease—and look forward to what’s to come.” —Gwyneth Paltrow, founder and CEO of goop
“The Hormone Shift shows that menopause does not have to be something women approach with dread. It’s a foundational guide to understanding your body and hormones, the small tweaks that can make a big difference with symptoms, and the ways that we are able to step into our power during this chapter of our lives.” —Sara Gottfried, MD, New York Times bestselling author of The Hormone Cure
“Dr. Taz has rewritten the book (literally!) on the traditional approach to hormonal health. She has long been at the forefront of merging Eastern and Western medicine techniques, and now her unique approach to women’s health is available to the masses. This game-changing guide to resetting hormones will help you thrive in your thirties, forties, fifties, and beyond!” —Sara Blakely, inventor and founder of Spanx

Monthly menses, pregnancies and childbirth, and then perimenopause and menopause are bad enough…but we are also contending with a range of further complications that mess our bodies up hormonally. A better read than a listen
Not surprisingly a book like this is better on paper where one can highlight and flip back to pages. Listening made it feel like there is a lot of extra blah blah, which may not happen with a hardcopy.

Better to buy the book than listen
There are loooots of charts and lists that make listening to it odd. Also, based on your stage in life (age) you likely want to skip to those sections and make notes. I recommend buying this one instead of listening.

I was very intrigued on learning about all the hormonal shifts at different ages and stages of our lives. Some of the material was a little over my head and overwhelming but I think once you got to the hormone reset part it's definitely something to learn from, and the steps seem easy enough to get started.

Better as a physical book
The ideas in this book are good but it is not well suited to be an audio book. Too many lists, quizzes and recipes. I would have gotten more out of the book if I had read it and had access to refer back to these types of items more efficiently. I think audiobooks should move these items to an appendix and provide them for easy retrieval in a PDF.
