Publisher's summary

Jess Montgomery showcases her skills as a storyteller in The Hollows: a powerful, big-hearted and exquisitely written follow-up to her highly acclaimed debut The Widows.

Ohio, 1926: For many years, the railroad track in Moonvale Tunnel has been used as a shortcut through the Appalachian hills. When an elderly woman is killed walking along the tracks, the brakeman tells tales of seeing a ghostly female figure dressed all in white.

Newly elected Sheriff Lily Ross is called on to the case to dispel the myths. With the help of her friends Marvena Whitcomb and Hildy Cooper, Lily follows the woman’s trail to The Hollows - a notorious asylum - and they begin to expose dark secrets long hidden by time and the mountains.

Loved It!

What a fitting novel for these uncertain times of 2020! It includes many dimensions that I appreciate open dialog about. Even touches on law enforcement controversy. Really enjoyed it!

Couldn't Put It Down

Suspenseful Mystery and well researched historical fiction. I love stories with strong female characters and this one delivers. I also liked the underlying issues of individuals experiencing very real uniquely human challenges. Civil rights and social justice themes abound in this story. I personally related to the Quaker (Friends) information. This is the second book in the series and I hope their will be more to come! !

Superb storytelling

I love this series! The setting is so authentic I can hear the mountain birds, smell the wildflowers and taste the moonshine. Lily is an incredibly likable character, who is strong and moral but willing to bend the rules or look the other way to do the right thing. I love how respectfully the characters speak to each other, even if they are enemies.
The mystery turns out to be very complex, without being confusing, and the major sub-plot was satisfying too.
No spoilers, but this book (obviously well-researched) introduced me to a group I did not know ever existed and I found it fascinating. I can't wait to read the rest of the Kinship series.

The Hollows

Long boring story line, way to many characters and sub plots to keep up with.
