Publisher's summary
Aiken makes use of the hallmark of Gothic fiction—the haunted house—in this story of three authors whose lives become inextricably tied to Lamb House, a Georgian mansion situated in the town of East Sussex, England: Toby Thomas, who lived there in the 18th century; followed by Henry James, who discovered Toby’s mysterious diary a century later; and ending with E.F. Benson, who struggled to put the agitated ghosts of Toby and Henry James to rest.

Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

At first, life at Blackthorn Manor is wonderful. But as Emily explores the grounds and rooms, she stumbles upon a mysterious girl named Kat, who appears to be similar in age, and the two become fast friends. That's when things take a turn for the worse. Kat seems to know a curious amount about the estate, and strange things happen whenever she's around. In one case, Emily narrowly avoids getting toppled by a bookcase in the library; in another, the fire erupts in the fireplace, nearly burning Emily's hands. Story
It is 1857, and Reverend Geoffrey Wilson has departed England to prove the literal truth of the Bible. The expedition heads towards Tasmania, where he is convinced he will find the real Garden of Eden. But the other passengers have their own agendas. Dr Potter is developing a sinister thesis, and the ship is crewed by smugglers of contraband brandy and tobacco. As the English passengers near Peevay's land, their bizarre notions become painfully at odds with reality.

Story
Dex and Perry might have the chemistry of Mulder and Scully and the scares of the Winchester Brothers, but I promise you this duo is unlike anything you've seen before. When 23-year-old Perry Palomino explores a supposedly haunted lighthouse, she runs into Youtuber Dex Foray, a sexy, snarky and opportunistic ghost hunter who doesn't quite believe in ghosts. What Dex does believe in is making money and in Perry he sees a viable opportunity: create a ghost-hunting show on YouTube.

Story
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

Wanted to like it
Was The Haunting of Lamb House worth the listening time?
It's very rare that I give up on a book, whether I'm reading it or listening to it, but I just couldn't make it past the first third of this story. The narrator was fine, but the story just never grabbed me and the overall experience was one I found tedious. In the end, I had too many other books waiting to be listened to for me to spend any more time on this one.
