"I was in free fall the moment we met, and I just keep falling."

Small-town police officer Silas Sloane knows every resident of O'Leary, New York. He's earned the love and respect of its citizens, though living under the small-town microscope grates on him. But though he's good at his job, there's one thing he's not good at: commitments...until Everett.

Widower Everett Maior, O'Leary's newest citizen, came to the small town kicking and screaming. He never wanted to become primary caretaker for his grandfather and has no interest in living the provincial life. Snarky and superstitious, he's proficient at keeping people at a distance...until he lays eyes on Silas.

Strange disappearances are plaguing O'Leary, though, even as Silas and Everett find their growing attraction undeniable. Can they find their way to a future together, even as ghosts from the past threaten to tear them apart?

I wanted to like this book but I really did not. First I absolutely did not like two separate narrators it was very confusing. Especially when the characters were supposed to be 30's and the second narrator made them sound like they were 50's. Second I found the main character (Ev) Everett to be very wishy in his decisions. The way he would flip-flop between wanting a relationship with (Sy) Sylis and then running away. If I was Sylis I would have told Ev to keep running he was not ready for a relationship.
Then there was the underlining mystery. Basically why? it felt like a throw away plot to just have something aside from a love story. There is the town sheriff who seems to just let the mystery slide by. A real sheriff would be on a missing person till it was finished especially when it became two missing people. Also I was able to figure out who the killer was in the beginning. The final climax scene with the killer was far too much a tosser as both men declare their love.
Finally like others have said you really need a score card to keep track of all the towns people. There are far too many characters to keep track of. With the two narrators and their different voices it was very difficult to follow who was who.
A re-write would be great because this has a good story in it you just have to find it.

good idea with a so-so ending

F. Scott Fitzgerald Said “All good writing is like swimming underwater and holding your breath.”
I definitely understand the sentiment, I have felt as if I was holding my breath for hours on end during the Love in O’Leary Series.
As I fell in love with each couple’s story, I hesitated to proceed onward with the next book because each one was so special and I was slightly worried the magic couldn’t be replicated. To my delight I was proven wrong with every page in the anthology.
Needless to say... I was moved.

Enchanting

I admit to being completely surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The characters were well drawn and voiced superbly by the two narrators. The story was well paced and the dialogue crisp and sometimes very humorous indeed. I normally only leave star reviews but felt, in this case, I need to praise the author and thank her for weaving such a splendid tale.

I fell in love with this story. I felt like I was there with them both! Their muscle tension for love is amazing. Can’t wait to start the next book! ♥️ May Archer!

One of my favorite books. There is some understandable angst as the romance develops, but not too much. You root for Ev and Silas, and it pays off beautifully. Ev’s wry sense of humor came out continuously, one of my absolute favorite aspects of the book. The relationship of Ev and his grandfather was wonderful to follow, as they moved from a total inability to communicate to a perfect, and hilarious, form of their own way of communicating their love for each other. The narration was very good. The women’s voices were not great, but it wasn’t a distraction. This book is a definite keeper!

Fun read!

Very good story, with lovable characters, and lots of side plots and people.
Great narration. Tho I had problems telling the two narrators apart.

Very good.

There is angst but mostly laughter and some intrigue - really enjoyed Si and Everett - and Grandpa Hen. Could have been a bit more romance the first 1/2 of the book - but, the reasoning is understandable with Ev losing Adrian such a short time ago. The story of these two is enjoyable and smartly written. The wit and sarcasm is ongoing and fun - Alexander Cendese and Iggy Toma are both excellent at their task and hope to see them in the NEXT O'Leary Book on Audible - Please Please May?!!

I did not expect this to turn out how it turned out.. but I liked it.

This was my first read by the Author that was her own book and not a cowrite. And it was sweet. It was a strange mix of romance, small town comedy and suspense.

The main characters, Si and Ev, were both complex and their acts and feelings sometimes did not make sense to me. The fights always ended both of them realising they were unfair and neither of them were to blame which is kind of weird. However the two kinds of grief described made the whole thing pretty emotional.

But if we look at the setting and the small town charm... it was cute and funny as hell! Gossip, speculation and an incredible amount of festivals. The other couples in the story and all the villagers provided a great and extensive backstory.. but I sometimes found it hard to place characters.

My other favourite was Grandpa Hen who was a grumpy, grumpy man... but the fact they were the same with Ev was funny and emotional. I liked his no-nonsense character.

As for the narration, it was pretty awesome. I love both narrators and they always do such a great job.

An enjoyable small-town story
