Alchemical Miscellany - Completely Out of Context

No complaint about the texts collected here - miscellaneous alchemical and gnostic texts in centuries-old translations with outdated but interesting commentary from 50-250 years ago.

What's lacking is an Introduction that gives a bit of context - not the entire history of Western esoterica, but perhaps a paragraph or two setting each of the chosen texts in historical context? Some indication that we are reading archaic translations of ideas based in half-forgotten world-views?

If you are familiar with the texts - and note the date of the translation - these are interesting artifacts, and it's good to have a reading.

But given the complete lack of context, I can only give the book three stars.
