Publisher's summary

• Examines the foundational texts and principles of Hermeticism and alchemy, showing how they offer a foundation for a psycho-spiritual creative practice

• Takes the reader on a Hermetic journey through each of the seven traditional planets, offering meditative discourses that speak directly to the intuitive soul

• Provides examples from traditional alchemical art and the author’s own intricate esoteric paintings

Drawing on ancient Egyptian and Greek cosmogonies and essential Hermetic texts, such as the Corpus Hermeticum, the Emerald Tablet (Tabula Smaragdina), and the Nag Hammadi codices, Marlene Seven Bremner offers a detailed understanding of Hermetic philosophy and the art of alchemy as a foundation for a psycho-spiritual creative practice. Offering examples from traditional alchemical art and her own intricate esoteric paintings, Bremner examines the foundational principles of Hermeticism and alchemy and shows how these traditions are a direct means for accessing higher consciousness and true self-knowledge, or gnosis, as well as a way to extract the essence of one’s own creative gifts.

The author takes the listener on a Hermetic journey through each of the seven traditional planets--Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon—exploring their mythological, philosophical, alchemical, Qabalistic, magical, astrological, and energetic natures and offering meditative discourses that reach past the rational mind to speak directly to the intuitive soul. She relates the seven planets to the esoteric anatomy of the human body, specifically the seven chakras, and shows how the planets can offer understanding and experience of archetypal energies and patterns in the body, in one’s life, and in the creative process.

A profound synthesis of magical and occult teachings as well as an initiation into the alchemical opus, this book reveals how to integrate and apply Hermetic and alchemical principles to awaken inner knowing, liberate the imagination, and live a mystical, creative, and truly inspired life.

Alchemy Unveiled

As someone who's been studying Hermeticism, Alchemy & Kabbalah for the past 4 years, this by far one of the most comprehensive overviews of the metals and the heirarchy of creation. This book is certainly not a beginner book.

Proper initiation typically starts with learning the story and then learning what the story means. So I would recommend having searched read other works prior to this.

I prefer the audiobook over the physical, as the grouping of all the different cultures while trying to keep correspondences was a bit difficult while reading. Listening to the author subdued my analytical brain for a more passive intake of the overall message.

My relationship with the world transformed through this book

It’s especially from listening to and contemplating the 7 spheres during night walks that how I view the universe is radically elevated. My world is so different now. Seriously, this brought so much perspective and a far deeper understanding now with the Qabbalistic work I’ve been practicing the past 1.5 years. This book is DENSE, but damn, am I grateful to have extracted a great deal of its bounty. No woo woo fluff whatsoever ever. Marlene has dug deep and returned to the surface with language that can only be the result of grueling inner work and discovery.

Great book

This review is for those who are trying to follow the path of self improvement to the whole self, but I also would like to just thank the author for not just writing the book, but also reading it this is a very good piece of work and a very important piece to the puzzle I am looking forward to her next book.

Marlene's experience and love in the transcendence of hermeticism is clearly evident and truly inspiring. I will be listening to this over and over!... and over and over etc... beautiful.

A Magical Compendium

An incredible journey through the realms of magick, philosophy, alchemy, qabalah, and the hermetic path. This book takes an in-depth look into the myths and legends of history, laying the foundation for the follow-up book regarding creativity and alchemy. Highly recommend, for those that are new to the path and those that want a concise refresher of the history and philosophy.

Disappointing

If you have never encountered any of this subject matter before, this is a nice sort of book report summary -- a categorized list of unattributed definitions of symbols. I was disappointed because there was no 'journey.' Except for a brief bio at the beginning, the author doesn't share any original thoughts on the subject. There is nothing wrong with introductory books, though it is nice when those kinds of books give sources; I just thought this might have some more meat on its bones, There are also a number of just outright mistakes that just sort of grate against you when you hear them, like stating that Pico della Mirandola was Jewish. Pico had a Rabbi as a tutor who introduced him to Kabbalah, but he did not come from a Jewish family. Little things like that throughout the text sort of wore me down.
