Pulled into a galaxy on the brink of war, Alexia Harmon finds herself trapped in an impossible decision: save herself and forget about saving the galaxy that is hell-bent on destroying her, dooming all those who call Gatlin home to a brutal death, or pick up her weapons and fight. Easy right?
For Alex, the nightmare started before her feet left Earth. Trapped in her life, Alex struggles to find peace within herself to the point where life really doesn't seem worth living. But when a strange alien device appears and pulls her from Earth, she finds herself amongst a new type of danger that makes her old worries seem, well, pathetic. As an outsider to their world, Alex finds herself at the mercy of their society and rules.
Death bites at her heels at every step, including the moments she finds herself in the belly of an unforgiving prison, at the hands of a potentially psychotic doctor, and in battle with a creature engineered to kill. The stakes are high as Alex is forced to flee from an alien government that would rather see her dead than be involved in their dealings.
To make matters worse, when running is no longer an option, Alex finds herself face to face with a new enemy, one that the galaxy has never seen before and is terribly ill-equipped to fend off. But Alex isn't going down without a fight. She knows that the galaxy she finds herself stuck in is on the brink of annihilation, and all too many beings are looking to her for their survival. But is her goal to save the galaxy or get back to her family by any means necessary? Even Alex isn't clear on that question.
