Who is Ariadne Hui?

  • Laser-focused lawyer diligently climbing the corporate ladder
  • The “perfect” daughter living out her father’s dream
  • Shocking love interest of South Korea’s hottest star

Ariadne Hui thrives on routine. So what if everything in her life is planned down to the minute: That’s the way she likes it. If she’s going to make partner in Toronto’s most prestigious law firm, she needs to stay focused at all times.

But when she comes home after yet another soul-sucking day to find an unfamiliar, gorgeous man camped out in her living room, focus is the last thing on her mind. Especially when her roommate explains this is Choi Jihoon, her cousin freshly arrived from Seoul to mend a broken heart. He just needs a few weeks to rest and heal; Ari will barely even know he’s there. (Yeah, right.)

Jihoon is kindness and chaos personified, and it isn’t long before she’s falling, hard. But when one wrong step leads to a world-shaking truth, Ari finds herself thrust onto the world stage: not as the competent, steely lawyer she’s fought so hard to become, but as the mystery woman on the arm of a man the entire world claims to know. Now with her heart, her future, and her sense of self on the line, Ari will have to cut through all the pretty lies to find the truth of her relationship...and discover the Ariadne Hui she’s finally ready to be.

Not just an Asian story

I'm not Asian. I've never listened to Kpop. I don't live in Canada. I've never been to Korea. I'm not an attorney.

Her story transcends all of that.

I was fascinated as I listened to this love story unfold. I also got to peek into different cultures that are not my own.

I saw myself interacting with the heroin even though we are so different. and yet so much alike. So much going on, yet so little.

Here I am waiting for the next story.

rollercoaster of emotions

Wow. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. I cried and laughed a lot. I got pissed, disappointed and happy. It showed a lot of pov about people's racism towards Asian people in a corporate world, Asian parents' expectations as if they own and control their children's lives, and most of all, Kpop fans' expectations that their idols prioritize them and instead of their love life. Very realistic and gave voice to a lot of people.

Love Chu’s work

I found this after reading The Stand In and have to say that I enjoyed both books entirely! Soo is an excellent narrator and if you want something that makes you feel good, download this and The Stand In. Audible, please, more like this!

k- drama that hit deep

Wow, I just thought this would be just another cute k-drama, but it actually hit deeper and made you think about values/feelings and etc. Adorable as ever, and of course I enjoyed it!

One of my Top Comfort Listens

Phillipa Soo gives such a good performance (as always) and the source material is so well written. Truly a great romcom recipe - humor, romance, and interesting characters in the family and best friend. Lily Chu is one of my favorites. I don’t know why audible is saying this will no longer be available after 03/31, but I hope it’s just a big prank.

Sent me though every emotion.

Normally I can listen and enjoy without showing too much emotion on my face. This book how ever had me laughing and crying with the main character. 10/10 recommend giving this one a chance.
