Publisher's Summary

In James Patterson's white-hot Western thriller, a Texan Ranger fights for his life, his freedom, and the town he loves as he investigates his ex-wife's murder.

Across the ranchlands and cities of his home state, Rory Yates's discipline and law-enforcement skills have carried him far: from local highway patrolman to the honorable rank of Texas Ranger. He arrives in his hometown to find a horrifying crime scene and a scathing accusation: he is named a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife, Anne, a devoted teacher whose only controversial act was ending her marriage to a Ranger.

In search of the killer, Yates plunges into the inferno of the most twisted and violent minds he's ever encountered, vowing to never surrender. That code just might bring him out alive.

James Patterson where are you???

I have been a fan of James Patterson for many, many years. I was disappointed when he started putting his name on books with another author. I have liked several of them even if I didn't see much of JP in them. I have never written a negative review before but felt this couldn't go unanswered. The writing was sophomoric and very predictable. Very slim on character building. I knew who did it very early (a sign to me the writing wasn't very good). To pass this off as a book by James Patterson is a dirty trick done to get royalties for JP and a book deal for the author. JP should be ashamed of himself for passing this off as one of his books. Please stop that and get back to writing the kind of books we expect from one of our favorite authors.

Elementary Garbage

This book is so ridiculous . It’s like a childish romance. And as far as a Texas Ranger’s grit goes, well, wussy is more like it. There is no real substance to the story at all. It is mostly about jealousy and hatred, deceit, lying and cheating. All the girls like the Ranger who is still in love with the dead ex-wife and the Ranger being sure it was the ex-wife’s boyfriend who snapped, blah, blah, blah. Oh, and throw a country singer into the mix. Just a good old recipe for a pile of hooey. And they lived happily ever after. Did I mention ridiculous?

Ghostwriter should disappear

In the future I'm going to shy away from titles where there is a writing buddy.
This book was definitely not up to Patterson's standards. Poorly written, obvious, and more than a bit pedestrian.

Patterson lending his name out to sell garbage?

The absolute worst ever! I can honestly say I have not had a worse experience from Audible since I began my membership in 2004. Can't say I enjoyed anything about this book from the narrator to the absolutely ridiculous story. If you're one that likes the characters and their actions to make sense...save your money! Completely disgusted at the stupidity of this novel. Dialogue between the characters...oh, it was just horrible and I could go on and on. I can say I will not buy another book that Patterson simply just puts his name on. What a sham!

Sophomoric

I have read or listen to almost all of Patterson’s books. This one was so awful, I checked that I hadn’t made a mistake and ordered the incorrect book. It reads like a teenage romance with no plot. It was awful.

worst patterson ever

this should have been a short story but ends up like a middle school homework assignment. Patterson is apparently willing to put his name on anything for a buck.

Obscene speech iis not acceptable for me

I'm sorry to have wasted my time listening to this book even though once I got to the obscene speech by several characters stopped me cold. I'm going to check to see if this book is rated and if there was any mention of bad language in the book description. If it does describe that it may contain objectionable language then I will accept responsibility for purchasing the book. On the other hand if it does not have a warning I will probably discontinue my membership in the Audible program. That's the way I am. The fact that many many people accept and even use this obscene speech is fine with me. Everyone has that right. Luckily I have the right to my opinion as to what is acceptable for me.

disappointed in Patterson

the main character is exceedingly arrogant . I rolled my eyes so many times at his shortsighted detective work. Patterson portrayed the characters with such little depth
