Publisher's summary

To Rory Yates, being a Texas Ranger is about justice, but all of that changes when he is brought to a small Southern town to help uncover the mysteries behind a local woman's death - only to discover corruption and lies.

Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status. But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery. Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights. And now, according to the chief of police, it has one too many Texas Rangers.

Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder. Then, Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets, favors, and lies as crooked as Texas law is straight.

To get to the truth before more people die, Rory is forced to take liberties with the investigation. The next ballad of Rory Yates may not be about a hero, but rather an outlaw song.

Highly Recommend!

Texas Outlaw surpassed my expectations. It is fast paced, capturing my attention from page 1. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. never quite sure who was the bad guy. I loved the main character, Texas Ranger Rory Yates. He's a true gentleman with a strong sense of justice. I can't wait for the next installment!

Great main character, solid story, but too much pointless filler!

I have never reviewed any of the other 75+ audiobooks I have listened to but part of this one bothers me enough to write one. Rory Yates is another solid James Patterson lead character and I have enjoyed both of the Texas Ranger books. However, Willow Dawes should have been left out of this book completely or only mentioned briefly to explain her absence. Literally every single detail of her rise to country music stardom is absolutely unrealistic and so far fetched it’s almost comical. Mentioning her having multiple hit singles, interviewed on Bobby Bones, her singing a duet with Dierks Bentley, and all of that without even having an album recorded is ridiculous. All of that happening because of a YouTube video is even more ridiculous. Without spoiling anything in the end, the way things are left with her and Rory makes her inclusion in the narrative even more pointless. I realize that my complaint is not related to an integral part of the plot, and the main law enforcement story line I really enjoyed. However, in my opinion, literally every aspect of Willow’s storyline in Nashville was not only entirely pointless, for me it actually detracted from the important parts of the story. Love the main character and hope to see more books in the series, but leave out anything and everything to do with country music because anyone like myself in any way involved in any aspect of the music business will be frustrated by the ridiculousness of that part of the story. By the way, FYI, no one in all of country music history writes a song about their boyfriend one night and somehow records it to album quality and then debuts it on the biggest syndicated country music morning show THE NEXT DAY!

Texas Love

I am from Texas and live just 2 hrs from Waco. I am in love with this series and can’t wait for book 3. Thank you Mr. Patterson for representing Texas so well and for all your novels.

A fair "beach read," at best...

This was my first "Patterson" read, and probably my last. Patterson doesn't seem to be able to "Pulp-out" any reads of late with-out a joint-writer.

It may have been a decent "Beach read" if any of the beaches in the State had been open.

All in all, a waste of time and book credit.

Great Book!

One of the best books I've read in a long time. I was surprised time and time again and it kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen. Have to look into more James Patterson!

New favorite book!

I am an avid reader but have just discovered James Patterson! I thought he was all courtroom kind of books. I WAS WRONG!

This book about a Texas Ranger was so true to life. His Texas drawl was spot on and could invision Rory's character. The book was well read and story line was really good. I hope this is the start of a new 2nd, 3rd, & 4th book with these characters!

Sit down and listen to how a real Texan talks! Enjoy!

Great if you’re a music buff or really into Guns

Too many song and music references for my taste but the story was pretty good. Pretty corny and predictable in places & not very believable in some of the action scenes. Not Patterson’s best effort (but I enjoyed most of it by bypassing all of the cheesy music references).

Easy Read

Predictable. Easy listen. Entertaining. Not much in the way of true literary art. Fun summer read or beach book.
