Publisher's summary

Another day. Another disaster.

After surviving a kidnapping and battling with spriggans, Matilda Whipplethorn finds her life in a suburban human house pretty boring. She's been excluded from school because of her fire-making abilities and her former friends are afraid of her. Salvation comes in the form of a life-threatening illness. Her tutor, Miss Penrose, needs a medication and there's only one place to get it, the spriggans. Matilda heads back to the antique mall to save Miss Penrose even though it just might cost her everything.

An Engaging Narration

What made the experience of listening to Fierce Creatures the most enjoyable?

How the narrator dove into each individual character full force and filled their shoes magnificently--portrayed with great realism that captured my focus and let my mind drift along with them into this magical tale.

Which character – as performed by Michele Knotz – was your favorite?

I personally enjoyed the characters that would say "We're from the Home Depot." It's such a silly ongoing gag and the way Michele delivered it was hysterical!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

With Michele's narrative, this book had me in stitches. The way she delivers the narrative is so rib tickling that it left me wanting more and more!

Any additional comments?

A riveting story with compelling characters set in a fantasy world--just my kind of book! An excellent read, and Michele provides some of the best audiobook narration I've heard to date. I wasn't much of an audiobook man until I heard these stories with her remarkable depiction of the characters and telling of the plot unfolding around them. Definitely would listen to more! 5/5 stars all around! :)

Fun listen!

The way that the amazing narrator brought each word and character to life.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the well-written characters.

Which character – as performed by Michele Knotz – was your favorite?

I found myself liking Iris but I have a soft spot for Matilda as well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the battle scene, where Matilda was injured but still fighting. She isn't a force to mess with, that's for sure.

Any additional comments?

This was the first audiobook I've listened to, and my introduction to this series. By the end of my listen, I ended up purchasing the Kindle edition of books 1-3. I very much am looking forward to the next book. Michele is amazing!

A lighthearted listen with an upbeat narrator

This story was humorous and surprisingly dark in parts - fans of fairies and fantasy will love this book, and can appeal to a wide range of audiences. Most enjoyable though was Ms. Knotz's energetic narration that is a natural fit with the fast-paced plot. Her vocal versatility among various both male and female characters, old and young, is masterful and consistent, and gives the story more dimension in audio form. The youthful and bright voice she gives Matilda is appealing without being overdone, and the even though it is the second book in the series, it works well as a standalone. Audio quality is also excellent.

Excellent listen! Great for all ages!

Where do I begin? Not only does A.W. Hartoin's writing keep you at the edge of your seat, but Michele Knotz brings the characters to life and keeps you entertained! You never want to stop listening. She not only reads the book for you, but she has a different accent, voice, and personality for each character. You can feel the emotion in every character. It's hard to choose a favorite because of this. However, my favorite is Matilda, the main character. If you like a strong, female protagonist, this story is for you, indeed! Matilda is a tiny fairy who fills big shoes! This audio book makes you laugh, cry, and amazed at such a wonderful performance and story. Prepare to get lost in the mythical land of Fairies, Spriggans, and more!

A great story read by a fantastic narrator

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love fantasy stories with fairies and elves like this one and I was delighted to hear it narrated by my favorite voice actress, Michele Knotz. Fierce Creatures is the second in a series but it has so much of its own story that you don't need to listen to the first book, which is narrated by a different person. It's such an epic adventure with such a variety of characters that I couldn't stop listening.

Who was your favorite character and why?

In a world of unique characters with so many different voices and accents, I really like the simplicity of Lrag. He doesn't need some crazy quirk to be such a cool character, he's awesome just by being himself.
