another great one

narrator was ok. I'm still adjusting to books on audio and it takes sometime to get use to hearing the story from another person's voice. the story itself was good , although I found myself a bit lost in the beginning with the flashback chapters.

Two stories in one!

Greatly enjoyed the “story within a story” in this volume. Delightful characters, as always with Ms. Brown (and Ms. Sneaky Pie). The backstory told from 1776-perspective was skillfully woven in the current timeframe. A thoroughly enjoyable read, and I look forward to the next volume!

A Beautiful Pair Of Stories

Having read every book from her series this far, I can say this is one of my favorites. The characters kept me invested until the very end, and upon the closing of the final chapter, I was smiling with joy. I highly recommend it.

Rita and Sneaky Pie Do It Again

Since discovering the amazing talents of Rita Mae Brown, my favorite genre and author changed. No longer a romance fan, mysteries became my go to read. Hardback, paperback, eBook or audio; if Rita - with or without Sneaky Pie has a new release it goes in my library.

Not bad

It was a close call between a three or a four star rating. Not the best in this long running series, and a farfetched motive for the murders to put it mildly. It was nice to have Herb Jones back, however briefly, but several things did not make sense. The people in Susan's golf threesome heard the shots of the first murder, but said they had no information when questioned. Why? The homeless denizens of Charlottesville's Downtown Mall are remarkably mobile, getting around the area with little difficulty. There were also multiple mispronounced names that were jarring - Sabato, Taliaferro, Cabell, and, most inexplicably, Monticello. The story lacks the high energy RMB generally brings to her stories. Still, it was enjoyable enough to while away a lazy Saturday.

Book 24 Tail Gate is First in 4 connected novels

I have listened to almost all of this series in order and have just finished the last available book, #27. I feel it very important to let listeners know that all 4 - from Tail Gate, Tall Tail, A Hiss Before Dying and Probable Claws should actually have one title followed by 1,2,3,4 as they are intricately connected. If you try to listen to anything out of order you will be lost.
The stories go back and forth in time to connect people and events. History - both US and Virginia - are at the core along with all the social, economic, political, environmental, issues of the day, The stories are woven together and I applaud the author for skillful writing, however, to accomplish this she had to limit considerably time we spend with Harry and her animals. I was drawn to the series initially because of the unique relationship Harry had with her animals, the farm, her friends, and the wonderful little post office in Crozet. As the series progressed, I loved the addition of many critters at her farm and all the wildlife in the area. I missed them a lot as the author moved into more complex stories which necessitated time spent more on the story than Harry and the animals. All that said, I think these 4 books were very good if you are up for a challenge to follow all the events and people over 200 years.

lots o' fun<br />

Rita Mae Brown is one of my favorite authors. Beautifully grounded in both superior storytelling abilities and classic whodunit construction, this is an extremely entertaining mystery. The narrator is equally excellent
- probably one of the best that I have ever heard. I can hardly wait for Ms. Brown's next book to be available on Audible.

Well imagined history based mystery

A well woven and engaging story encompassing worthy characters over two centuries of history and plausibility.

Not enough of the animals

Great history, but as with last few books in series, too little of animal interaction
