Mark Twain once observed, "A lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on." His observation rings true: urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus public-health scares circulate effortlessly. Meanwhile, people with important ideas (business people, teachers, politicians, journalists, and others) struggle to make their ideas "stick". In this indispensable guide, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds draw their power from the same six traits.

Despite all the high-tech tools available to salespeople, the most personal method still works best. Storytelling packs the emotional punch to turn routine presentations into productive relationships. It explains products or services in ways that resonate; it connects people and creates momentum. Stories speak to the part of the brain where decisions are made. Paul Smith, author of the acclaimed Lead with a Story, shifts his best-selling formula to the sales arena.

Public speaking can be terrifying. For David Nihill, the idea of standing in front of an audience was scarier than cliff jumping into a thorny pit of spiders and mothers-in-law. Without a parachute or advanced weaponry. Something had to change.
In what doesn't sound like the best plan ever, David decided to overcome his fears by pretending to be a comedian called "Irish Dave" for one full year, crashing as many comedy clubs, festivals, and shows as possible.

In today's world, most of us regard ourselves as bad storytellers. What happened? Telling great stories is a skilled art. How do master storytellers compel us? There have been many attempts to understand what makes a good story, but few have used a scientific approach. In The Science of Storytelling, Will Storr applies dazzling psychological research and cutting-edge neuroscience to our myths and archetypes to show how we can tell better stories, revealing, among other things, how storytellers - and also our brains - create worlds by being attuned to moments of unexpected change.

Publisher's Summary
Master the one thing all great TED talks have in common!
What is the secret to delivering a great TED talk?
What is the magic ingredient that makes a TED talk captivating?
And more importantly, how can you use those secrets to make your presentations more powerful, dynamic, and engaging?
To try to answer these questions, I studied over 200 of the best TED talks. I broke each TED talk down in terms of structure, message, and delivery. Here's what I discovered: After studying over 200 TED talks, the one commonality among all the great TED talks is that they contain stories. Utilize advanced storytelling techniques to inject life into your presentations!
Essentially, the best speakers on the TED stage were the ones who had mastered the art of storytelling. They had mastered how to craft and present their stories in a way that allowed them to share their message with the world without seeming like they were lecturing their audience.
Discover the 23 storytelling secrets of the best TED talks! In this short, but powerful, guide you're going to learn how to use stories to make your presentations engaging and entertaining. Using case studies drawn from TED talks by Sir Ken Robinson, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, Susan Cain, Leslie Morgan Steiner, Mike Rowe, and Malcom Gladwell, you'll learn how to craft stories that keep your audience mesmerized.

Marketing material that should be free
This audio-book could have been only 5 minutes long. Even though the author claims he studied more than 200 TED talks, he relies on a handfull and details just one.
Not many insights, except for the classic hero-conflict-change-succes formula.
The real goal of the book seems to be to get you on his site.

Excellent, focused tips on TED-style storytelling
Liked the crisp, compact and clear presentation - credit must also go to the narrator. The tips provided are very clear and practical, and good presenters will already be doing some of it or something similar. But as a summary of how to tell a story effectively, in some detail, this is a superb and succinct read. I’ve won speaking and teaching awards but this still had plenty to teach me! Disliked the volume of lead-in material, it takes a while to get to the meat; but then again the real content is wonderfully succinct and precise when you do.
Who’s it for? Anyone who speaks, whether beginner or expert. Highly recommended!
