Publisher's summary

In Winter, Storm, in Deep, and Dark,

The many threads they’d see,

But in their rage they overstepped,

And then the Courts were three.

Beware, oh love, the nothing mage,

A vengeful man is he,

So if you dare to draw his wrath,

Then nothing ye shall be.

The stars align, the planets shift,

Their walls are split in twain.

Behold, behold, the syzygy,

Now we shall feast again.

The king is dead, and any dreams of conquest have died with him. Now the Teralian army can dedicate their focus towards hunting the man who brought it all about.

Fugitives for treason, Declan and his friends must slip past the nation's borders into the treacherous wildlands beyond. Trapped in a world of Faeries and whispers and prophecies, they chart their course for the Seat of the Tempest and for whatever powerful entity demanded his presence.

The syzygy is coming, and the nothing mage will need every bit of help he can get if he's to find a way to stop it. Assuming he can even make it there alive.

Like watching a child be beaten with a stick

I've listened to books where a person's soul is literally broken, this was worse, the protagonist is literally a child with PTSD and having the world thrust on his shoulder with the bodies of his influenced decisions on the other. Overall, a good concert, the magic system is well flesh out, besides how he gets 100% return on nana drained. But this book was still that of watching a child be broken over and over again.

Side note: Telling a person to live a lie to keep an aura down is stupid, imagine having to live a lie your entire life? in the end he just kept ignoring his problems and acting like they weren't there! of course that will cause problems!

The end

Book 3 in the saga in the end was really good I think they could’ve made another book about him hunting down the beast but they still made it a very complete ending
I think he blames himself for too much and that is most of the book is him dealing with his emotional trauma troubles etc. but it makes her much more human character less the bad ass who kicks ass and more likeAn actual war veteran Which is something you don’t see a lot of or a lot of it done well in fantasy do you think the ending was a little anti-climactic although the last 10 minutes and the apologue were beautiful ways to close it out.

Great trilogy

The whole series has a great story. The character's actions are sometimes questionable throughout the entire series but you can always chalk it up to the characters lack of experience. I would say the ending is rushed, nothing is really said about what happened to Daniel or any other characters and the end story for the MC is kinda meh, the final sequences in the story are quickly over with, there could have been many more chapters written just about what the epilogue talks about and could have been presented in a much better way. Overall I'd say if you liked the first book you'd enjoy the second and third books.

Thrilling Conclusion

Book three is an excellent conclusion to the Saga of the Nothing Mage. I enjoyed the series, especially the second and third books. I recommend this series to others. Spencer Dillehay's narration is great and he keeps the listener's attention with his performance. I requested this audiobook from Audiobooks Unleashed and I have voluntarily left this review.

It Was Hard To Forgive The 3rd Genocide

I have rarely read a series with so unrelatable and morally reprehensible a main character. By the 3rd time he intentionally slaughtered 100's of people because he was having a temper tantrum, I just gave up on him. I tried to focus on the side characters, but of course Declan kept rejecting or killing all of them. The "grand climax" that the end of the book tried to reach for was unearned, with very little groundwork done to prepare for it, and really just felt like a convenient way for the main character to feel better about his innumerable crimes. Terrible characterizations and an inability on the author's part to truly face the ramifications of their character's actions undid any interesting world-building achieved in the early parts of the series.

liked the first two books

I just couldn't get into this installment. The story has already completed. This installment didn't seem to add anything meaningful. I think it was the interpersonal banter that put me off. I can usually slog through a repetitive story if the characters and interactions are enjoyable, but this just didn't have anything to look forward to.
