Number-one internationally best-selling author Thomas Erikson shows listeners how to identify and avoid the psychopaths around them.

Charming, charismatic, and delightful or manipulative, self-serving, and cunning? Psychopaths are both and that’s exactly what makes them dangerous. Best-selling author of the international phenomenon Surrounded by Idiots, Thomas Erikson, reveals how to identify the psychopaths in your life and combat their efforts to control and manipulate.

Using the same simple four-color system of behavior classification that made Surrounded by Idiots so popular, Surrounded by Psychopaths teaches listeners how to deal with psychopaths in their lives by becoming aware of their own behavior and their weaknesses. Vivid example stories illustrate ways that psychopaths can take advantage of various behavior types, helping listeners identify their own weaknesses and be proactive about protecting themselves. Erikson outlines some of the most common forms of manipulation used by psychopaths - and others - to influence those around them.

Since manipulation can often be a feature of ordinary, non-psychopathic relationships, the audiobook also includes practical methods and techniques to help readers confront controlling people and rehabilitate negative relationships into mutually respectful ones.

By understanding your behavior as well as the tendencies and strategies of psychopaths, Surrounded by Psychopaths will teach you to protect yourself from manipulative influence in your workplace, social life, and family.

I listened to this book immediately after I finished "Surrounded by Idiots", one of the best books there is on the subject.
First, I tell you what I liked about this book: The performance is much better, as it lacks those long pauses between sentences in the first book by the same narrator, which was lengthening the read unnecessarily. There is a full chapter which it summarizes personality colors from the last book, with added examples and elaboration, which it is a great addition. The author dives deep with very explicit psychopathic personal stories. If you ever dealt with such personalities, you can relate to those events without exaggeration.
What I didn't like about this new book, is the lack of back up researches on some of the points being made in the book, although the personal stories in it are good, but at times, it feels the author generalizes some of those points without providing any source to a research neither to his work nor to other sources if any. Listening to the book gives an impression as if the book is written by mostly, emotions of the author and it tires to get the message across to individuals in his own life, knowing they will read the book. Also there some digital noises starting the second half of the book.
As much as I liked the last book, and there are some good points in this one worth reading, but TO ME, it seemed the subjects presented in this book was not entirely in the scope of author's field of expertise, but sure it does raise awareness.

Good, but is it great?

This taught me the gaslighting & manipulative, undermining, evil misbehavior of psychos. I now associate unaccountability with psychopathy. Heterosexual males in North America are very much familiar with dealing with a specific group of people who practice unaccountability for mistakes & unfavorable behavior like it’s their religion. Thanks Mr Erikson

If you’ve ever been made to regularly doubt what you know is true then read this to regain your sanity

wish I'd have gotten my hands on this book before my first marriage. if you've ever been involved with a psychopath some of these points will hit eerily close to your experiences! Knowledge is power.

eyeopening

I respected that he took accountability for his first book. When he saw it was being used in a way he didn’t intend for it, so he wrote this to make it easier for us who understood the color system already to be able to spot the fakers. Had to stop a few times seeing some of the subjects hit close to home from a previous relationship, but man is this book FULL of useful info. If you didn’t read the first one “Surrounded by idiots”, start there. You’d probably follow this without it but it’ll make way more sense.

The sequel we didn’t know we needed.
