Publisher's summary

The start of a swashbuckling adventure from New York Times best-selling author Margaret Weis and Robert Krammes

Captain Kate Fitzmaurice was born to sail. She has made a life of her own as a privateer and smuggler. Hired by the notorious Henry Wallace, spymaster for the queen of Freya, to find a young man who claims to be the true heir to the Freyan, she begins to believe that her ship has finally come in.

But no fair wind lasts forever. Soon Kate's checkered past will catch up to her. It will take more than just quick wits and her considerable luck if she hopes to bring herself - and her crew - through intact.

Fantasy, Dragons, Pirates & Steampunk Airships!!

Amazing series - absolutely LOVED it!

So this was the first book in this world that I started reading -- easily one of my favorite fantasy worlds of all time. If you like a combination of fantasy, dragons, pirates and some 'steampunk'-ish airships, you'll likely love it as much as I did.

Fantastic relationships between the dragons and humans. And unlike many books, --all-- of the characters (especially "Captain Kate") are very dynamic and fun characters that'll you'll want to follow through the whole series.

Appropriate for all readers who love fantasy - no "one-off-sex-scene" to ruin it for sharing with your friends and family.

NOTE -- even though I started with this book -- there are actually 3 books prior to this that are part of the series told from two generations of characters. Audible has #3 categorized into the wrong series. But to read them in order, here they are (1) "Shadow Raiders" (2) "Storm Riders" (3) "The Seventh Sigil" (4) "Spymaster" (5) "Privateer" and (6) "Kingmaker". While they are all very very good -- #4-6 are amazing!

Mags does it again!!

I've ben a huge fan of Margaret's work for the last 40 yrs. She on her own and paired with many talented authors, Tracy Hickman the first in line of her partners , according to me...

This series grabbed me from the first and as per usual.... kept me wanting more. Thoroughly enjoyable, great heroine and
supporting lead characters. Story line was awesome.

Loved them all!! Thank you for writing this series. Did my heart so good, I'll have to start reading my old Dragonlance books,
of which I own 120 of them lol .

Wonderful new stuff!

Spoilers Ahead I only got to Chapter 3

I will be returning this book. I don't understand why you'd spend a chapter establishing what appears to be a main character only to have them die in the next. The first 2 chapters were a lot of world building without too much depth. The narrator was quite good. I like how dragons are used in the story. This is a real bummer. I wanted to like this book.
