About this listen

“IT’S SHOWTIME.” The news has made headlines-"Korea and Japan join hands to exterminate the terrifying magic beasts on Jeju Island once and for all!” It’s a monumental moment for the people of the country…and it has absolutely nothing to do with Jinwoo. Instead, the newest S-rank hunter’s number one priority is bringing his recently recovered mother back home where she belongs at last. When the situation on Jeju Island takes a devastating turn for the worse, though, will the country's top hunters be strong enough to save the day without him?

better in some ways... worse in others

the narrator is doing much better that book 1, the skrees and skraas are less often and less abrasive to the ears. he changes up his reading cadence/pattern more so that it sounds more professional and less like someone reading you a bedtime story.

the story has set up decently, but the author is getting bogged down with too many characters. this wouldn't be too bad if any of them were changing or progressing, but many are stuck in a rut and just make the same observations and decisions. I'm glad he's more publicly recognized, while keeping his total power a secret. now let's see some consequences! his family is boring and vanilla, why keep bringing them up if they never do anything? sister studies...great. mom is healed, and now has no issues from years of coma.. could she at least miss out on a pop culture reference to be funny? of have an opinion on how the family/mc has changed?

also the MC wanting a guild but no guild members is getting pretty dumb. why can't he find a way to help other progress and start up a team? I mean if he wants to slaughter all the monsters by himself fine... but then why all the guild BS? lets move on and find out what the gates truly are... or maybe mention his dad coming back, the USA team didn't even mention that? neither has the s-rank from USA met up to fight the MC.

one, bigger, more convoluted plot point is better than a hundred minor easy-to-solve ones. give us a problem to see solved, somthing where even the over powered MC needs a little help maybe!

all told, I want to see where the story goes. the books are getting easier to listen to. just want to see a plot twist or two that doesn't immediately signal the end of the book.

Can’t stop reading but why.

I loved the light novel, I loved the manga (I know not manga but manga what ever sue me). I can’t stop listening to the audio, but. Something off. I love that I hate it, I pronounce every name wrong and it’s driving me insane. Plus I miss looking at the incredible art.

The Narrator Sound effects

I have mentioned this in my earlier reviews. The main issue with the narrator sound effects!

partly better, partly worse than the previous

This action packed series to me has been nothing but thrilling but with this book we took a step back and breathed in some much needed dialogue after the last book, which I reviewed to be alright but ultimately left many plot points untouched due to what I felt was rushed story progression on the side of the author. Luckily some of the these were polished up here but, unfortunately this book still feels rushed. There was the plot turning fight on the island and some much needed dialogue but in regards to character development there still has basically been none.
People need Jinwoo, Jinwoo doesnt need people aside from menial tasks. We're all here for the dark power fantasy, thats what this series really is but not developing some of the characters emotionally or mentally, I feel, is a missed opportunity. Hopefully the characters and relationships broaden over the next three books but I'm beginning to doubt it.

The books are becoming shorter and shorter as the story, I believe, is coming to the climax which erks me a little because either not enough will be developed in the future or it's all going to be crammed in. Making one book action heavy while the other,(kind of like this one) more dialogue heavy which may bore some listeners.

Hooked on the story

I got into the light novel and manhwa after watching the anime. I'm waiting for season 2 of the anime. I already placed the next volume in my wish list. The narrator was perfect for this book!
