Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Story
An accident during the construction of a tunnel beneath the Bering Strait leads to the discovery of a network of caverns and evidence that hints at the survival of a primitive human species. Led by DARPA technologist Reinhard Thyssen, a team of experts from around the globe is dispatched into the subterranean maze to discover all they can before the caves completely flood. Something lurks in the darkness, though. A creature has evolved into a predator unlike any the world has ever known, and it's up to the scientists to make sure that it never reaches the surface.

Story
When the body of Hunter Gearhardt washes up on the banks of a seasonal river outside of Pomacochas, Peru, with only samples of vegetation, a handful of feathers, two black- and gray-streaked rocks, and a golden headdress of indeterminate origin in his possession, his grieving father launches an expedition to determine how his son died. The party uses these clues to divine Hunter’s route into the jungle, where they find a surviving offshoot of a primitive tribe, long thought to be extinct, and something far more sinister, something that’s been able to avoid discovery for eons for one simple reason: No one leaves the rainforest alive.

An excellent creepy read.
Any additional comments?
There isn't much I can say about the plot without spoiling it so I'll get right to my thoughts.
I wanted this book to be so much longer, simply because it's an incredibly creepy read. It captured me from the very start and I listened to it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.
The author manages to pack quite a punch in this short read. He starts the action pretty much straight away and the whole way throughout he ramps up the tension and fear until the climatic ending. It's a grisly chilling tale and one that I devoured. I loved every second and it played out like a TV episode in my head.
Despite this being so short, the author still brings an in depth story to the table. His characters are well fleshed out and the plot is believable and fast paced. It has everything a great read should, and more!!
In all this was a creeptastic read. It grabbed me from the start and didn't let go. He wrapped up everything nicely and as I said before, even though this is a short book, it still felt like a complete novel, if you can understand what I mean!!
Gary Tiedemann did an amazing job with this book. He is the whole reason the book played out like a TV show in my head. He brought the right emotions at the right time and brought the creepiness to life!!

I literally couldn't stop listening
What made the experience of listening to Snowblind the most enjoyable?
Wow. The narration by Gary Tiedemann was SUPERB and the story itself by McBride was gripping throughout. I listened to it the whole way through last night at work, and I didn't want to get out of my car to visit my stores because I was so utterly into the storyline.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Snowblind?
For me, the most memorable part I think would be the tense moment where the MC finds "the hand"
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was the MC discovery of the hidden cold cellar area. I enjoyed the moody atmosphere and imagery while he discovered all the secrets inside. I felt like he was playing a video game for a minute and he had just come across some great loot or something lol.

What in the name of god happened here?
Four friends take a quick trip into the Rocky's to just get away and relax for the weekend. They thought that they would have a nice and quiet weekend. They also thought they were alone. They couldn't have been more wrong.
The narration for Snowblind was done by Gary Tiedemann does a great job. His deep and brooding voice really adds to this story. And he was able to add a lot more to the ambiance and the overall scariness of the story.
A quick little story that packs a punch. Snowblind is definitely a horror book for those who love a good story. McBride has this way of writing things that are scary but realistic. They also completely unbelievable and believable at the same time. The antagonist in this was absolutely terrifying in the same way that the shark in Jaws was. You never really see the "animal" but you definitely know its there.
Overall, Snowblind was a really well done short story/novella that screams horror but also hits you with some great atmospheric writing.

Almost a 5star book
*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Snowblind is a short book, knowing this is wasn’t a surprised how everything moved so fast. But the way that the author wrote, I think that it would have been a fast-paced book no matter the length. Mr. McBride knows how to keep the action coming. This was a very well done book, and one that I enjoyed quite a bit. One issue that I had with the book is the use of the medical terms. I had no problem understanding what was being discussed, but I am also a nursing student. I worry that someone without a big sports background or a medical background, might have a problem knowing what body parts are being talked about. BUT, even if you can’t figure out which body part is up for discussion at the moment, it doesn’t take away from the story. So due to this issue, I give 4 STARS to Michael McBride!

OUTSTANDING STORY!!!
Move over Stephen King
I appreciate the no frills fast pace story that has you rigid in suspense. The story grips you at the start of the story with the desperation of the stranger walking in a snow storm.
Remember - stay clam and THINK - there is a way out - Think - you have a mind - REASON fear breeds impetuousness which leads to death. We are man and we can THINK!

It was good, but.... (spoilers in this review)
Any additional comments?
I was totally gripped by this recording. It feels like an excellent radio play. The story is about two and a half hours and is well told, very vivid and intense. There was just this one thing...
the idea that sasquatches are evil kinda bummed me. I've always thought of them as gentle, shy creatures, not the murderous, torturous cannibals (would they be cannibals?) that they are in this story.
STILL, it was pretty good. I just had that thought in the back of my mind and felt oh man, big foot is evil! awe, that sucks.

Pretty good yarn from Mr McBride (let reedom riiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggg!). LOL... Sorry 'Bout that Mr.McBride, lol... Anyways, back to the yarn. It's a cold weather blizzard type of thriller situation that a group of guys find themselves in. Seriously. not one chick. I mean it's a sausage factory in this shed they find. And there's dead and shredded dudes all over this mountain. And then things really get crazy. Good narration. Good run time. Good plot. Little bit of a weak sauce ending. I give it a solid b-

Compulsve listen to the end
I don't usually buy books under 8 hours length but this had really good reviews so I bought it. I listened to it all in one go. An edge of the seat listen. Quarter of the way through I guessed the origin of the hunters but this didn't put me off listening to the end. There was one part when I could have smacked the dozey sherif, he kept shouting stupid orders which if he had any sense he would have seen the real conditions and there was no way his orders could be carried out. It is a pity that the book was so short. It seemed that no sooner had I started then it was over and I was left in limbo. The narrator also gave it life, a great listen absolutely worth a credit even though it is under 3 hours long.

The unseen sometimes can be much scarier
This book is one of those rare books who is monsters or people you never see… Yet the whole time you’re on the edge of your seat wondering what will they do next. I think the anticipation made this book so much better the atmosphere building the character building all that plus great narration contributed to this being a great great book. If you like horror with intelligence read this book it is so good this is a horror book after it graduates from college… Yes it’s still likes horror, but can get you there in a much classier way. Did I already say this book was so good… It is. I totally recommend this book to those who love horror!
