Featuring a conversation with the authors!

In this spectacular father/son collaboration, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high-stakes stories: What might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?

In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place....

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, Sleeping Beauties is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

Disappointed

This book jumped around to much. The reader sounds very bored in spots while reading . Story line gets good then jumps to something else before finishing up with the event.

Just really wasn’t a fun read/listen

I preordered the book and life got hectic so I also used a token for the audio book. The beginning pretty good, the middle drug on way to long as just wasn’t very interesting, and the ending had more action but imo was very weak and felt rushed. So many things left untold and nothing about this book felt satisfying. I rarely felt a connection the massive amount of characters and struggled to remember most of their reasonings for being there in the first place...I really enjoy long stories but this one seemed to not add anything by extending entire sections filler.

I usually enjoy king’s long winded ness but this was not a book I particularly enjoyed...worth a shot if you get it free from your library.

Booooring

I liked the narrator's voice but hated the story. The concept is interesting but what could be a really gripping premise droned on and on and on and on winding up as lame as the characters in it. I never felt suspense. I waited so long for a climax that never came. I was left wondering what the point of the book was anyway.

Big Disappointment

I listened to the entire book but it was very hard. I've never read such a bad Stephen King in my life. Excellent plot description but the book seemed endless and never picked up. I realize that the Narrator was supposed to sound like a hillbilly but...overall this was just bad.

Man bashing for 25 hours...

Let me preface this review by saying that I believe in equality for all sexes, races, nationalities, and sexual orientations. But this book was ridiculously over the top when it comes to man bashing. Every plot and twist revolves around how poorly men treat women.

Let’s just say that if Stephen King’s name wasn’t on this book, I doubt it would have been so popular on its own merits. If this is a sign of Owen King’s future writing, I’ll definitely be passing.

Very Disappointing

What disappointed you about Sleeping Beauties?

The story line was interesting, but the book seemed to drag on forever. There were too many characters to keep track of and the story never picked up or filled me with excitement so I found it to be hard to finish. The narration was awful. I felt the accents given to the many characters was overly distracting.

What could Owen King and Stephen King have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Fewer characters to follow with greater character development. Get to the guts of the story quicker, or add something in the beginning to keep my attention. This one was hard to finish.

Total disappointment

I do not know how to politely say this book a steaming pile of dog crap. Men are bad, women are good is total bullshit. I feel as if a psycho feminist wrote this book.

The first King novel I have ever really disliked

What would have made Sleeping Beauties better?

The plot of the book was and sounded very promising and intriguing. As soon as I heard about King’s new book “Sleeping Beauties “ and read about it, I couldn’t wait to read it and actually was the first book I preordered on audible. As a huge Stephen King fan, I thought it would be great. However it was also the first time I have ever been extremely disappointed. The characters and their accents were a joke. If this is how King really sees people from the south, well let’s just say he’s never truly gotten to know anyone from here and apparently he thinks we’re all just a bunch of backwoods hillbillies on meth. And as for the story itself started out ok but just rapidly went down hill after the first few chapters. Again the premise of the story was good but it felt like he was just trying to rush to get something down on paper and printed by deadline, if only if he put as much time and effort into the actual story as he did into coming up with the idea for the story. Again I have always been huge fan of his work ever since i was a kid and I have everything he’s ever written, but this is the first novel of his i will not be adding in print to my shelf. And now I’m nervous for first time when it comes to getting his next novel The Outsiders which comes out early next year. If the next one is just as bad i may stop buying his books all together because I think his brain may be faltering with age I don’t know or maybe he’s finally just ran out of good ideas. He had a good run while it lasted but I guess all good things must come to an end eventually. I really hope he restores my faith with his next one because im not ready to give up entirely just yet.

What was most disappointing about Stephen King and Owen King ’s story?

The entire book sadly

How could the performance have been better?

Honestly not the narrators fault, you can only do so much with what your given

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
