Publisher's summary

They were sent to investigate the first extraterrestrial signal. What they found was beyond anything they could have imagined - or feared.

On a voyage to a mysterious moon in the Alpha Centauri system, the UEA Centaurus meets with disaster. Only the quick thinking of the flight engineer, Rachel Terman, saves some of the crew. Crash-landing on the moon, trillions of kilometers from Earth, they struggle to carry out their mission and try to survive.

But nothing has prepared them for what they will face. False readings on sensors. Bizarre nightmares. Crew members vanishing.

Then, Rachel discovers a blue, glassy lake.

And everything changes. If the signal abides - will humankind fall?

Signal is the latest gripping science-fiction thriller from rising star Tony Peak.

I want 9 hrs and 32 mins back

I should have requested my money back. I stuck it out until the end just to see if it got any better. It doesn't. By the end I was just wishing that all the characters would die on the alien planet. The story is weak. Characters don't act or think in any rational or logical way. The writer seems to have a series of phrases that were jotted down and randomly stuck in the story just to use them. There is no way I can describe how much I disliked the story, but I posted this review which is the first time I have ever took the time to write one. Many elements of the story were just there to promote some social agenda.

Lesbian Romance disguised as Science Fiction

Writing style is adequate. Story has been done ad nauseum. The Gay marriages and lesbian sex didn’t add anything to the story and was pointless. If you support the leftist social agenda of gay marriage and gender delusion, this stew of liberal propaganda will be right up your alley. I barely made it through this mediocre piece of crap. I’ll never get those hours of my life back. Maybe I can still get my money back.

Loved the voices, especially the Norwegian

Cool story! Too many characters for me to be able to follow with ease, but the main narrator did an amazing job with all their voices and nationalities, so that helped. The Norwegian scientist was my favorite.... absolutely LOVED her voice and accent... want to listen to her talk all day long

Teenagers in space?

It was a good story idea, but the characters seemed immature for their parts. The main characters kept making me think of teenagers and high school students. More hormones than brains and more emotions than sense.
The whole tragic backstory idea usually makes you feel closer and more invested in the character, but instead it made me think of her as whiny. "I'm in outer space on a special mission and the other astronauts don't like me. I just want to be loved." (That's not a quote from the book).
I think the author was going for a feeling of overcoming suppression and persecution, but it didn't take me there.
I read sci fi which usually has a little romance thrown in, but this was like a romance novel with a little sci fi thrown in.
I found myself anxious to finish it so I could go on to another book.
The narrator did a good job with the women's voices, but had this impending doom tone the whole book, even before it was impending doom. Even at the end. She was a little monotone. She seemed to struggle with the men's voices and that was a distracting.
I hate to give bad reviews when I know what it means to the author and narrator, but I use the reviews to select books, so I feel obligated and I cannot recommend this one.

interesting premise. a little slow. too much sex

I bought SciFi not a steamy romance. I wish authors would leave the sex out of a story that was, otherwise, pretty good. the sex added little and just slowed the pace down.

I liked the idea of the story, mostly.

It's finally over

I really wanted to like this book. The publishers summary made it sound like a story I would really like. After listening for about 2 hours I realized I hated every character in the book. The more I listened the more I disliked the book and the characters, but the publisher had promised me a great ending and I wanted to know what happened. Kind of like The X-files, I hate the people and the story, but I want to see the monster at the end. Turns out is wasn't worth it, kind of like The X-files. I usually love Audible Originals, but I really couldn't wait for this one to be over. Knowing the end isn't any better than the rest I wish I had stopped listening at hour 2. The only redeeming thing about this book was the narrators who did a passable job. Though much of their performance was overly dramatic, I'm sure that was more a problem with direction than performance.

A fun and intriguing listen

Kudos to Audible, Tony Peak and Allison Johnson in particular for a really entertaining audible experience. I have been an audible fan since the beginning and I have never enjoyed a book so much frankly. Signals is a cleverly written sci-fi gothic tale with many surprises, sexy situations and interesting characters. Yes there is a "lesbian" component (which turns off some readers) but it is only one of many cool elements to this production, and frankly, though I am not gay, I found it refreshing, unique and fun. The whole novel and the creative multi-narrator production by audible is great. I totally disagree with reviewers finding fault with Allison Johnson: they are full of what Philip K. Dick might call "kipple." She does a brilliant job handling a vast array of international accents and well, to be frank, her voice for the Swedish linguist Larson is sexy as hell. There are number of intriguing motifs handled very well in such a short package, including Colonialism, feminism, prejudice of many types, survival on a long range space mission, and the ending is complex and rewarding. I look forward to reading more from Peak and his strong women protagonists; moreover, I hope that this novel will be published in written forum so that myself and other professors may be able to teach it in our classes--I guarantee that students will love this as it is very hip, well-written, action-packed, horrifying and intriguing on many levels. Thanks for a great trip across the galaxy!.

Awful Naration

The woman who read the main part seemed to think that a voice quivering with anger and hurt would add drama to the story. Actually it was profoundly annoying and a huge distraction
