Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad - an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign.

Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. Her driving goal is to protect Aden - protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what. This time even Aden's passionate determination may not be enough - because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent and the insane and the irreparably broken...like Zaira.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Engaging Storyline • Complex Characters • Excellent Worldbuilding • Compelling Romance • Meaningful Series Progression

I certainly have fondness for Aden after this one, but my favorite parts of this book are the snippets of all the various characters we have one to know over the series as the book weaves in how the groups connect now. It also brings new story arcs and characters including a new leopard pack to bring us back to some of the grrrr from the first part of the series.

Lots of connections

Aden and Zaira are both damaged people who have knew they were meant to be since they first met. Zaira has this darkness inside of her where she thinks she does not deserve love or anything nice. Aden understands what she has gone through and accepts her with all of her flaws. This story had a lot of action and it sets up perfectly for all of the Arrow children that get to be kids. I loved meeting a new pack within this world and I am looking forward to getting to know them more.

My only complaint is that Nalini Singh can't write fast enough to suit me. I love this whole series and the intertwined characters. I love the ways in which the three races have come together and built bridges between them to combat evil in the world.

I want more!

What did you love best about Shards of Hope?

I love this series and really enjoyed this book but the sound quality for this one is just awful. Angela Dawe does an amazing job narrating this series and it's a shame the poor sound quality makes it hard to get through this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but the sound quality made it hard to listen to it.

Loved the book. Very bad sound quality.

REVIEW:
As the world tries to right itself after the fall of Silence, Aden Kai is trying to keep the Arrows safe in this strange new world of emotion.

Zaira Neve may be small but she is lethal. And Aden is the only one who can keep Zaira from falling farther into the darkness.

Shards of Hope begins 4 months after the fall of Silence and a few months after the end of Vasic’s book (Shield of Winter).

I really really loved this story. Not just because I am an uber fan of all things Nalini Singh, but because we get to see more about the Arrows. The Arrows have forever been portrayed as the bogeymen of the Psy-net. Over the last two books we have come to see that the Arrow care deeply about their squad mates and the people around them. Even if they didn’t know or acknowledge that they cared, they did (well most of them). It was a lot of fun to watch Aden learn to think like an Alpha. I loved that he works so well with the other races.
I don’t think there are many people in the Psy-Changeling world that don’t like Aden. After the events in Shards of Hope I would say that there are even more people that like him. I loved learning about Aden. While his parents were not great (okay they sucked) Aden grow up knowing the importance of his position in the squad. But I think only Vasic, Zaira and the rest of the Arrows knew how important he was from very early on.
Aden is a force unto himself. I was so happy to see what he can do. And Zaira! Oh man is Zaira a ball of fiery, wrapped in dynamite, with a lite fuse. You never want to be on her bad side. To say when Zaira snaps you should hit the deck would be an understatement. But watching her with Aden, JoJo, Pip and even Vasic we come to see just who Zaira really is.

I honestly can’t find fault in this book at all. I loved every minute of listening and every page of reading. I can not wait to see what is in store for the new Psy-Changeling world.

Stellar

My latest foray into the psy/changeling world world was enjoyable. Listening was a priority over the past 2 days and I'm glad I saved this until vacation time. The story gives us a front row view of the start of A/Z's relationship but we also get to see the Arrows' first steps out of silence in more depth overall. We're given a new protagonist so there will be a reason for more romance and I'm looking forward to possibly getting to know some new characters - Singh certainly has fodder for years now.

The performance is satisfactory, not taking away from my enjoyment but certainly not exceptional.

Overall, worth the credit

loved this, a classic Nalini Singh and satisfying conclusion to the fall of silence arc. Arrows falling in love - so sweet.

Wow, I really loved this one. I didn't think I would like Aiden's story so much but he turned out to be such an awesome hero. Finding out what he can do with his powers was pretty cool. And the kids! Man, all those scenes with the kids. Killing me. So good!

a story of the Arrow Squad. Totally believable filled with a future we should try to emulate.

It's great to be able to see these characters as more well rounded people, Aiden has always confused me and this clears up a lot of what is hinted at in previous books. Once again a bit too much of the "I want him, but I'm not good enough for him" vibe, but still a great addition.
