Publisher's summary

A great war encroaches following the turbulent events of patch 17, casting a menacing shadow over both Demon Grounds and lands of the light races.

Roused from a millennia-old slumber, dark gods seek to exact vengeance for their past defeat. Max finds himself at the epicenter of it all - with the lives of his woman, his friends, and all his people in the Wild Wood dependent on him.

Two unlikely heroes must stand - and endure - against all odds: one a Black Demon from an ancient prophecy, the other a fabled Gray Lion....

I don’t care about max

Koran is not even in this book way to get. My hopes up, like seriously who cares about Max, I skipped most of it, just don’t like when they switch characters on me, boring, and unenjoyable

Bit of a tangent

This book has our hero's sister and friends playing main fiddle in this book. I liked it and was glad that I reread the last book, as it was quite a long time since I read a book from this series. A recap helped me to not be lost while listening to it. But also since it is following a whole different set of characters the fact that it had been a while wasn't a big issue. Still getting familiar with the lore again was helpful.

new narrator but still great

I warr a little worried that the narrator had changed but I shouldn't have been. Nick is awesome in all his works and this was no exception. I'm glad this book focused on max's group. this is building up for something huge and I'm looking forward to it.

Great even with a mid series narrator switch

The book was great. Love Nick Podehl as a narrator. The only issue I had(very tiny issue) was that with the switch of the narrator it took a chapter or two to get readjusted. Otherwise an amazing series so far. I hope it continues to be transferred to audio.

Shadows of the Great Forest

Great book.
Enjoyed it and I think any fan of the series will as well.

My only issue is that there was no end of book chapter or two giving a peak at our MC, kinda blowing off the all encompassing overview feel the previous books have given us, when the end book has given POV of Max’s group.
Why no vice-versa at eob, here?

Anyway great book, great story, and great performance.
Podehl has done Akella proud again.
