Pretty good

There’s a lot to like about this series. The premise, the characters, the chain quests, the NPC/Gods/Players relationships, and especially the personality and insights of the main characters Kirin & Max.

But the negatives are there too. The overwhelming number of epic items, unique quests, and overpowered characters make them less remarkable. Long readings of stats. The same formula used book to book: player has doubts, gets confidence boost, faces impossible odds, something saves the day, player succeeds. Over and over.

Then there is the number of books, each around 10 hours, released every 3 months. Nine books - that’s over $100.

It would’ve been great to combine these into 4 books at 22-24 hours each. As it stands after book four, I don’t think another $57 is worth getting to the end, when I already have a fairly good idea how it’s going to develop. Maybe I’ll skip to Book 9 and read the ending. Idk.

Not sure if its the story or me.

Like I said I'd not sure if it's the story or me, I typically like stories when the characters struggle with mundane tasks of early character development. Not to spoil the story, it certainly does this in the beginning, but then it takes a meteoric jump. I'll listen to the next in the series.

fun book, although...

The narrator sounds good, and the book is fun, but holy crap dude, learn to pronounce words properly, one word that really got to me was "taciturn" he kept pronouncing it "takiturn" instead of "tasiturn" there were others, but that stuck out. And my personal opinion is a 20% level drop for dying is rather obscene, typically it's only a percentage current level progress or all of progress on current level at worst, I can just imagine the rage of customers if that were the way it actually was in games. Ridiculous that the author put that in there. Sure you can often times best the game several times then play nightmare mode and have that or worse things happen for dying, but not right off the bat first run through from the beginning. But, I'll get the other books eventually, I don't regret getting this one, just some pet peeves about this and that.

Middle of the pack LitRPG

Some of my favorite litRPG series are Chaos Seeds, Way of the Shaman, Awaken Online, the Dark Herbalist and Necrotic Apocalypse.

I had high hopes for this series joining this list and felt it fell flat on several fronts. The story has an interesting premise and promising litRPG world. Unfortunately, the main character levels crazy fast and takes away from the joy of experiencing the leveling progression. For perspective, the main character hits near level 100 in a matter of days while his counter parts were still struggling to reach level 10. Way too OP. The interactions between the characters are also just not that interesting and I found I had to consistently pull myself back into the story.

Overall the story is not that bad, but also not that great compared to other litRPG available.
