It's not easy being king. Especially when you've got an allergy to sunrise and sunset, a fire goddess for a mother-in-law, demonic adversaries, random assassins, and a basement full of insecurities to cope with. Add to that his daughter, the fire priestess/princess; a couple of lightly deranged professional magicians; a whole city full of wizards; and enough squabbling princes to resemble a kindergarten argument. It's enough to make a man want to just go home. Luckily for Eric, he has the world's fastest pet rock, a smart-mouthed sword, and a horse that not only understands him but likes him anyway.

What you shouldn't do with your lead character

I am truly disappointed with this series. It parallels the feelings that I had the first time I read the Dune series by Frank Herbert. In that series I started the second book, Dune Messiah. Quickly I realized the plan to kill the main character and I put the books down and didn't pick them up again until 5 years later. In this case, I simply don't see me listening to the third or fourth books.

The shame here is that this was turning into one of my favorites. With that said the end of this book became obvious half way through. Tt is something I have seen done to many times and as far as I can tell is just and excuse to complicate the story line.

The book is still a good listen. However, book 2 is as far as I go.

What a story!

Absolutely brilliant! Great book. Keeps you rivited to the edge of your seat the entire time...chock full of suspense, romance, comedy and many others...everyone should experience the world of the last Nightlord!

I love book 1. Book 2 is just as good! omg where is book 3? Hurry and get here!

Good story

I enjoy this book very much but the last part I really didn't care for the ending . But overall this a a must listen to

Proof that math is useful

Eric the elder geek rides his magnificent Bronze again! From mental battles with evil magicians to friendships revisited. This story has your attention beginning to end.
The vocal performance is great, and matches the character described mannerisms to perfection.
