"Is it the world that's busy, or is it my mind?"

The world moves fast, but that doesn't mean we have to. In this best-selling mindfulness guide - it has sold more than three million copies in Korea, where it was a number-one best-seller for 41 weeks and received multiple best book of the year awards - Haemin Sunim (which means "spontaneous wisdom"), a renowned Buddhist meditation teacher born in Korea and educated in the United States, illuminates a path to inner peace and balance amid the overwhelming demands of everyday life.

"Peace After Thinking And Feeling Too Much?"

What a breath of fresh air! I'm a person who thinks too much, feels too much and sometimes, to my great detriment, says too much. "The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down" came to my rescue when I was mired in a pit of grief and sorrow, worried about what I'd done, what I'd failed to do--basically, I was living a life where I found I couldn't change the past, and the future was looking mighty bleak. This book goes beyond the usual mindfulness: live in the present, forget about the past and future generalities and offers snippets of hope and peace.
And I do mean snippets. At slightly less than only three hours, each chapter starts with an essay based on experience and is followed by snippets of truly inspiring, thought-provoking, utterly life-changing observations and glimpses to a more profound and fulfilling life. Haemin Sunim suggests not listening to it at one go, but to listen bit by bit, chewing on and digesting each tidbit. Naturally, in my state, I devoured it completely. But yes: I will be going back to it time and time again.
Here you'll find beauty about relationships, love (what happens when you find it, how to go on when it spits you out), work, life, and the unutterably ordinary moments that make up our lives.
Highly recommended as it's definitely worth the listening time, especially since you'll wind up wanting to go back again and again.

"Oversimplifies concepts, but still a good listen"

I really enjoyed this and gained much from listening. No doubt it will be a title that I will listen to again and again. I will probably learn new aspects on the next listen because I will be in a different place in my life.

My only criticism is that some of the hypotheticals (or life situations) and the related philosophy or advice are at times quite oversimplified. There were moments I couldnt help but to chuckle, roll my eyes and say "yeah, right...if only it were that simple". Some of these situations in life are often much more complex and nuanced than the author would like to acknowledge. Other pieces of advice seemed (in my opinion) like they could actually cause more suffering in certain situations if followed.

Even with these minor weaknesses, it is still very much worth a listen!

    "Wonderful insight"

Well worth the price and time to listen. Th he author displayed a life well lived and the knowledge he earned is passed on to the reader.
A great book for these tumultuous times.

"The things you can see only when you slow down."

I really enjoyed this book. This young man is very wise. The book was thought provoking, I feel that it has persuaded me to change or strive to be a better person, to slow down , to think things through. I recommend this read to everyone who has looked at the tittle. You will not be disappointed.

    "The source of uncommon sense!"

Looking for peace in a troubled world? Would you like to learn it from an enlightened peer? It’s easier to take. I love this application of the serenity of the Buddha to keep from losing myself in a world gone mad at a frenzied pace. It is presented, not as a conversion plea, but more of an offering of lost commonality between religions whose followers have waged war to dominate, ignorant of just how contrary that is to following Yawei, Jesus, Siddhartha, or Mohammed... Listen for a couple of hours and you will be enriched. Listen regularly and this newfound ability to slow down in a reckless world may just save your sanity and your life!

    "Excellent book, excellent reader"

The book was great. First time in a while that I stopped after a chapter, and called my wife to tell her about the book. I got through chapter 3 and I started telling my family about how great this book is and how they need to pick it up. Actually bought the paperback to see the ideas in print.

"Sounded like a list of spiritual principles"

Good tidbits as most of the book came across to me like a list of affirmations or spiritual principles. Not a good story or flow. No relating to how to slow down or how to bring the principles into ones life less a simple “ just do this”.

I personally didn’t care for the voice and inflections of the audio. Mel Robbins is a great reader and author- you feel like you are on the room with her. Or having a conversation with her. This was very dry and monotonous. For me anyway. But always things one can pull out and learn from or hear in a different way.

    "Worth a listen"

Definitely some nuggets of wisdom interspersed between some platitudes. A light book with some good reminders.

"So much in such a short book"

I love this book. Really, it's made up of short portions relating to different topics. Some are well-known bits of wisdom, others I've never heard of before. Some make sense right away and are phrased in a way that inspires without weighing you down with extra information, others may be counterintuitive at first but feel right in the end. There were only a few paragraphs that didn't resonate with me at all and that I could not apply to my own life. Most are good reminders of the types of things that are really important in life, and I don't know about you, but I definitely need reminding sometimes. There's a lot to think about in this book, all of it with the potential elevate your mood and inspire you. I will listen to it numerous times and I highly recommend it.

Beyond that, it was narrated beautifully. I thought that the narrator used the perfect tone for this work. It was soft and contemplative without being preachy and actually added to the material rather than taking away from it.
