Publisher's Summary

With wry wit and hard-earned wisdom, popular online personality and founder of TheChicSite.com Rachel Hollis helps listeners break free from the lies keeping them from the joy-filled and exuberant life they are meant to have.

Founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and CEO of her own media company, Chic Media, Rachel Hollis has created an online fan base of hundreds of thousands of fans by sharing tips for living a better life while fearlessly revealing the messiness of her own. Now comes her highly anticipated first book featuring her signature combination of honesty, humor, and direct, no-nonsense advice.

Each chapter of Girl, Wash Your Face begins with a specific lie Hollis once believed that left her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, or ready to give up. As a working mother, a former foster parent, and a woman who has dealt with insecurities about her body and relationships, she speaks with the insight and kindness of a BFF, helping women unpack the limiting mind-sets that destroy their self-confidence and keep them from moving forward.

From her temporary obsession with marrying Matt Damon to a daydream involving hypnotic iguanas to her son's request that she buy a necklace to "be like the other moms", Hollis holds nothing back. With unflinching faith and tenacity, Hollis spurs other women to live with passion and hustle and to awaken their slumbering goals.

Life changing

I am a 44 year old pastors wife and mom to 4 amazing children and this book has been life changing for me. I had been feeling like I’m too old to have dreams or to do anything new but this book has encouraged me to dream bigger and not limit myself. There are a few books that I listen to on audible and think “well, that was nice” but there are others that I will listen to again AND have to purchase the hard copy to highlight my favorite parts and revisit. This book is one that I have both! Rachel, thank you for being vulnerable and putting these words on pages for us to read! ❤️

More for women who are mothers

I did enjoy this book. much of the content spoke to me, woke me up, encouraged me to take control of my life and take action on my goals and dreams. My only real criticism is that there were a lot of times that I felt like I just couldn't relate, at all, or really follow along because it was so focused on being a good mother. I am not a mother and have chosen not to be one. More power to those that do! I salute you!!! If you're a mama and need some guidance and encouragement... this book is bomb!!! But for me, I got bored with the stories. Call me a terrible person... her testimony of her experiences were gripping but they didn't resonate with me... so I lost interest for a great deal of the book. However, overall I enjoyed it and will likely listen to it again, I'll just skip through the parts that don't speak to me. I loved the author's voice both physically as she read and in her story to call to action you living in your truth and speaking it too.

Life Changer

I started following Rachel about two years ago after the birth of my third child. But it was at the end of 2016 which had been a rather difficult year for me and my family but most particularly me as I was in a season of being lost.. I had lost sight of who I was. Who I was as a wife, a mother and most of all who I was to myself.. It was when I was in that season that Rachel started her new year do you morning live streams, and I happened to stumble across one as I sipped my morning coffee and scrolled through facebook as you do at 5 am (because my kids are 5 amers by nature but I however am not). That day sent me on a journey that has not been easy and not been graceful but a journey I needed. I don’t have anyone in my life to remind me. Remind me of who I am and what I’m good at, to hold up the mirror and say girl you’ve got this. So for me that’s who Rachel is and that is what this book is.. So if you don’t have anyone to hold up the mirror for you, to remind you, or to just say girl you got this or even if you do you should read this book!!

Meant for white evangelical women

What disappointed you about Girl, Wash Your Face?

As a recovering former evangelical, the tone and message of this book sent me back to the days in college where my peers would talk down to me in that holier-than-thou sanctimonious way. It was triggering, to say the least.

Would you ever listen to anything by Rachel Hollis again?

Absolutely not. This was my first foray into her works and absolutely my last.

Any additional comments?

Marketed as a secular memoir, this is really a religious self-help book. Definitely not a one-size-fits-all piece.

Exhaustingly Self-Serving

Ugh. I REALLY wanted to be into this book...but dang, it’s exhausting to listen someone make a case over and over for how great and successful they are...all while trying to drop a few life-advice nuggets for the reader (all of which you could get from a 20 min scan of “motivational quotes” on Pinterest). Rachel REALLY wants you to know how fantastic and accomplished she is....wait, did you actually grasp how much she has achieved? Don’t worry...she’ll tell you a hundred different ways in this book. Plus, there is SO much God/Faith/“I’m a good Christian” mumbo jumbo that it just comes off dis-genuine, preachy and un-relatable. This former preacher’s daughter really wants to sell you herself...and some heavy handed Christian values, y’all!

It was ok.

Interesting stories but nothing new. Your typical Christian girl trying to be hip and relevant. Lots of “sweet friends” and “sisters”. Similar to Emily Ley. Predictable message. Was hoping for a little more practical instructions as to how to become who you’re meant to be.

Stick with it

I found the beginning to be slow and unhelpful but as this is progressed, it got better and better. Many people lack self-awareness though so it makes sense why the author started her book the way she did. Stay with it and you’ll be glad you did.

Unrelatable unless you’re a wealthy married Christian woman

This book sounded like seven hours of the author bragging about her virtues, with the occasional anecdote that highlights her very privileged and Christian lifestyle.

Rachel is amazing

Absolutely love anything this lady writes. Amazing, must listen for everyone.
I've been listening to this audio book in the gym and I don't even realise I'm working hard. It's like she's in my ears training me telling me I've got this.

Thank You Rachel.

Uplifting, confidence building and eye opening

What made the experience of listening to Girl, Wash Your Face the most enjoyable?

The author / narrator was a pleasure to listen to. Whilst the story contained many things I have heard before, her way of explaining and demonstrating was eye opening and heart warming. I felt like this book was written ABOUT me in many ways and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

What other book might you compare Girl, Wash Your Face to, and why?

The Universe has your back - both really eye opening, empowering and confidence building.

What does Rachel Hollis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Her narration is amazing and you feel like she means every word.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes and BOTH!

Any additional comments?

I had a struggle and overcame it you can to

Nice enough gal.
not really my kind of book
follows The 'I had a struggle and overcame it you can to' format so if you need that give it a go.
I couldn't relate so much and as a result the tools and things she lists to help are not that relevant.

Please LISTEN to this book... YOU NEED IT!

I have never felt so compelled to share a book in my life.. I am telling anyone who will listen to go buy this book... from strangers in the supermarket to my hairdresser, my friends, my family, my colleagues, and I am telling you dear reader, you are reading this review because you want to see if this is worth spening your money on... I promise, it is. Let rachel into your life, your heart will thank you. Rachel's honesty is almost shocking; her unbosoming style is unrivalied in today's world so obsessed with perfection. Her charm and wit are there to ensure that you feel uplifted, even when the love is so tough, and the words so true that you think you might need to stop... there is something here for everyone, we can all relate to one if not all of the lies Rachel told herself and we should all free ourselves of these lies that serve neither us, nor those around us. Being lucky enough to own this book as both a hard copy & audible copy, I can tell you, that to have Rachel read this book, makes it even easier to feel that reading this book is like having the most powerful chat with your very best friend. The kind of friend who pushes you onward and makes you see yoursefl the way she sees you. Thank you Rachel & good luck new listeners & readers, picking up this book is going to change your life <3

Real, Relatable, Inspiring

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, Ive already ordered a copy for a friend. Almost each one these "lies" I could honestly say either oh crap I do that or I used to do it. The whole book is just uplifting and Rachel feels relatable, her stories are raw and vulnerable and just connect,

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I lost my own brother years ago, and it was the catalyst for my realising life is short and going after my dreams with more determination than before , so the point where she spoke of losing her brother and its impact really connected with me

Any additional comments?

Buy this book .you will not be disappointed
