Great Potential Stories, Bad Narration

How could the performance have been better?

If the narrator would have taken his time. Instead I felt as though he was just breezing through the stories, giving slight pause when necessary, Then continuing on till the end. A couple times it was difficult to determine which character was talking since he gave no additional pause or inflection in tone when the characters were interacting with one another. It is a shame too since the stories seemed they could have been so much more entertaining with the proper speaker....or simply just a different speaker. I feel I was not even able to fully absorb what I was hearing and that the story was just barreling toward the end. I have listened to some books where I did not care for book simply because I did not feel the narrator's voice/own character did not mesh very well with the story I was listening to. This was not the case with this book. It was simply just the performance. Was the narrator on a schedule to keep the story within a set time limit? I had not ever wondered this before this book....Again potential, but.....

Stories? Hardly even vignettes!

Would you try another book from Zhanna Hamilton and/or Sam Scholl?

Almost none of the pieces included had anything close to a closed ending. The stories were shallow and the events were predictable. Maybe that's why she closed her "stories" when she did; you could predict an ending, too. Just not a good one.

Would you ever listen to anything by Zhanna Hamilton again?

Perhaps, if she wrote a novel. Maybe she needs more length to develop characters and plots.

How could the performance have been better?

Find someone who has some expression in their reading. Where did you get this amateur?
