Publisher's Summary

A stand-alone novel set in the Ark Royal Universe!

The first major alien offensive against Earth has been blunted, winning humanity time to deploy new weapons and prepare new tactics as Earth's space navies prepare to take the offensive. But the enigmatic aliens have plans of their own - a full-scale attack on Earth that will either win the war in a single stroke or lose it.

The stakes have never been so high. The fate of humanity itself is in the balance. And, as battle rages across the solar system, as humanity finds its back pushed firmly against the wall, millions of people - military and civilian - struggle for survival, knowing that victory will come with a very high price....

And defeat will be the end of everything humanity holds dear.

Great job telling the story

I just wish this book would have came earlier in the series. Filled in a lot of unanswered questions. Tells the good and bad of people when in bad situations. Also a lot of the side details that you might have been wondering about.

skip this one,

bad and not part of the main story arc. seems like a needless cash grab by the author.

Old bits and pieces

Fills in the back story of invasion of earth and what happened Kurt's wide, Molly. Not enough plot to make a standalone book. It's okay if you're a fan of series, but don't expect too much.

Decent book/series

Got a little boring by the end. Same stuff over and over. The Narrator can’t do an American accent to save his life.

Great series !

Fills in the blanks and catches us up on the other storylines . Always a joy to read or listen to Christopher G Nuttall’s high quality writing .

Book out of sequence

I must say that I generally love Christopher Nuttall’s books. However, I find his habit of doubling back on the timeline and doing side stories to be quite annoying. If I am listening to a series I want a chronological progression. Not stories way out of the timeline or with stories very weakly connected to the series. Mr. Nuttall would be better served to do spin off series, than to include them in the main Series. I forgot to read the summary on this one before purchasing. It’s not what I was expecting and I was very disappointed. I like the author enough that I would probably buy everything he wrote, if it was segregated. Instead I find myself looking for new authors.

Cliffhanger! Hurry & Publish the next book.

WOW! This Ark Royal book takes place on Earth and in space. The attack on Earth really makes you think about how helpless most of us would be if we lost electricity, internet, banking, access to food or transportation.
Basically it would be chaos!!! Good read and I hope the next book come out soooon.....

Glad they told this story

If you haven’t read this series, read book1 and 2, then boom 10 and then 3. Don’t bother with 4-9.

OK but not necessary. Slightly unsettling

What did you like most about The Longest Day?

Closes off some questions from the first trilogy. If you want to know more about Molly Schneider or how the Russians made their plans, the answers are contained here-in.

Would you recommend The Longest Day to your friends? Why or why not?

I'm not sure. Whilst it's part of the story of the Ark Royal trilogy, I was already happy with the Ark Royal story. This details what happened on earth during the attack. I don't think I'd listen again. There are some details of sexual assault that were more graphic than anything in the previous books and I didn't really need that.

What does Ralph Lister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I like him, these stories are read well by him and if you're looking at this book you're probably already familiar with him. I love R.C. Bray but I think on these books Lister is a better choice, as there's mainly told from a British point of view and I'm not sure Bray could do it that way.

10 or 2.5?

This book fill in some of the gaps in the story ark. It seem to take place after book 2 and before book 3 in the Ark Royal set. If this is your 1st read of series, then book 3 is next but 1 & 2 fill out the back ground.
