Publisher's Summary

From the critically acclaimed author of Prince of Fools comes the second volume of the brilliant new epic fantasy series, The Red Queen's War.

"If you like dark, you will love Mark Lawrence. And when the light breaks through, and it all makes sense, the contrast is gorgeous." (Robin Hobb)

The Red Queen has set her players on the board…. Winter is keeping Prince Jalan Kendeth far from the longed-for luxuries of his southern palace. And although the North may be home to his companion, the warrior Snorri ver Snagason, he is just as eager to leave. For the Viking is ready to challenge all of hell to bring his wife and children back into the living world. He has Loki's key - now all he needs is to find the door.

As all wait for the ice to unlock its jaws, the Dead King plots to claim what was so nearly his - the key into the world - so that the dead can rise and rule.

the end

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, definitely

Any additional comments?

awesome

unusual characters that you can't help but love with a story line full of action, twists and turns and unforseen circumstances. the character really delve into certain elements of human nature. and to top it off the story has a healthy dose of humour to make it a very awesome story.

Fabulous

I've read others by this author .. I'm at once attracted and repulsed by the content, the humour flawed characters are addictive- I found myself disgusted by the Jalan but wished him to be a better man, he rarely is and then he surprised you!! I would recommend this author but do t be expecting g the typical fantasy read it's funny sad, and appalling all at the same time.. Fantastic!!! I've listened to the audio book in this case really well done.

Page turner!

The second instalment of the Red Queens War continues to excite. I love the occasional link to the Prince of Thorns however it is just a slight touch which is a good thing. Jal is very predictable and sometimes very annoying however this is his character. Great read and cannot wait for the next book. I think I will read the next book myself.

This book maintains the quality of writing and narration that made the first book awesome :) Prince Jalan has to be one of my favorite fictional characters as the situations he ends up in never fail to entertain! If you were a fan of Prince of Fools then you need to get your hands on this!!

Superb

I love Mark Lawrence's writing. Highly imaginative & a world he has created that is believable. A complex story that is entertaining and keeps you guessing. If you're sick of waiting for the Winds of Winter to come out, start with Prince of Thorns, work your way through that awesome trilogy & then dive into this trilogy. Can't wait to read the final instalment.
Thank you Mark, excellent as always and perfectly presented by the narrator. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Performance is awful

I have listened to all of Mark Lawrence's books, and enjoyed them immensely. I love the morally challenged anti-heroes he comes up with and Jarl is a great example of one such. The narration in this book though, it really made me grind my teeth. It felt as if each character's dialogue was recorded separately, then pasted together with a standard time of silence between them with no regards to the pacing of the story. It was like someone using the same sh**ty time consuming transition between PowerPoint slides each time. I gave up after 22 minutes, after trying twice, I just couldn't listen to it anymore.

I know this most likely isn't the fault of the author or the narrator, it just seems incredibly poorly edited. Has anyone else experienced this?
