Publisher's Summary

The second in the thrilling fantasy series returning listeners to the Six Duchies and the magical world of the Farseers, from the author of the best-selling Assassin’s Apprentice.

Fitz has succeeded in rescuing Prince Dutiful from the clutches of the Piebald rebels, and has returned with him to Buckkeep castle. With Dutiful safe again, Queen Kettricken can proceed with plans to marry him to the Outislander princess, Elliania, but with tensions building among the peoples of the Six Duchies over Kettricken’s tolerance of the Wittted, even Buckkeep is no longer safe.

A reluctant Fitz is assigned to protect the young prince, and also train him in the Skill, and in doing so he finally makes contact not only with his estranged daughter, Nettle, but with someone in Buckkeep who may possess a greater Skill talent than Fitz. And who may represent a terrible threat to the Farseers.

Meanwhile, Elliania arrives, and before she will accept Prince Dutiful’s betrothal challenges him to undertake an impossible quest. He must kill a legendary Outislander dragon.

The Tawny Man Trilogy

This outstanding trilogy ties up some of Robin Hobb's earlier story threads so characters from earlier books, nothing to do with the main characters the Fool and Fitz start appearing in "The Golden Fool" I am thoroughly impressed with Robin Hobb's literary skills. This trilogy is enthralling! I would recommend it to anyone. My only regret is that there are no more of her books available on Audible. I have listened to them all! But "The Tawny Man" is the best of them all!

Great audiobook!

Beautifully read by Nick Taylor, as an Actor I know how hard it is to do well and he did it wonderfully. Of course it is made easier when the book is so well written. More please Robin Hobb!!

Great books!

Few books can capture me as these series, first many years ago in my native swedish and now again as audio books. I often get "stuck" listening from the moment i stop working at 5pm to the moment i go to bed late at night and i dont regret a minute of it. /DM

Setting up things for the third book?

Well read and absorbing. It held my attention despite it lacking in thrills, action and suspense compared with earlier books. As the book progressed one couldn't help but feel that the payback will be in book 3.

Another great book in this series

Any additional comments?

I'm not sure if this trilogy is a better than the first trilogy (The Farseer Trilogy), as in my opinion the first one was poorly narrated. Nick Taylor does an exceptional job at narrating this book and the rest of the Tawny Man Trilogy. It was difficult to stop listening and I would find myself taking a longer path to get where I was going just to listen to a bit more.

Tom badgerkock whines like a teenager

Loved these books, but this time round I found myself getting irritated with tom badgerlock constant teenage esque angst. Found myself getting annoyed rather than enjoying the plot. Also as a male I found the depiction somewhat sexist.

Repeating sentences

Once again harped Collins audio fails the author and performer - countless instances of repeated text...

Em, an ending perhaps?

A frustrating filler book between parts 1 and 3. Develops characters and story lines have diversified but there is absolutely no climax whatsoever.

Another great listen

Not only is this a gripping, great take but brilliantly narrated too. Robin Hobb is a fantasy genius and I'm quite sad I am coming to the end of the series.

Great story, terrible narration Part 2

Any additional comments?

I'm not commenting about the story, as I don't wish to ruin it for anyone, however I will say it's another trilogy well worth the read/listen. Unfortunately, the change in narrator from the Assassins Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy) almost ruined it completely for me. I'm dreading the next series after this :'(

Solid middle

I really enjoy Nick's performance but the editing is terrible.

Its a good development of the story but not as climatic as the first in the series. It felt like it was building towards the final instalment.
