Publisher's summary

The end of the world began without warning, without ceremony. Earth finds itself under global assault from an enemy it can't define or understand. Their motivations are a mystery. Their intent is unknown. No demands have been made. In the wake of devastating attacks, two survivors attempt to flee from an army as it sweeps the planet. While they struggle to stay alive and make sense of what has happened, all they are offered is a single statement of obscure purpose from those that would bring about their end. The child, she is risen.

Thought-provoking short story

I actually really liked this short story. Although it is sad and dreary, the author does an excellent job of making the reader feel as though they are placed in this predicament. It really gets the imagination working.

What would one do if placed in this situation? What would one do if they felt as though they were the only person left alive, with no likelihood of being able to recover?

It is an extremely thought-provoking book that emphasizes the importance of enjoying every moment you have to its fullest while it is there to enjoy, and also the importance of not taking things for granted.

I received the audiobook free of charge from the author/publisher/narrator free of charge in exchange for an honest, unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

Danny the drivers license collector

Nothing new here in the post-apocalyptic genre, typical on the road story looking for that specific person. The part that makes this unique is the lack of understanding as to what caused the end of the world – not zombies this time, and why is the grass turning red and who is the child. Unfortunately none of that is explained so you are left with a common end of world story with a bunch of unanswered questions. I suppose that is the same way Danny felt as he spent his last hours on Earth. All in all the story wasn’t terrible but I felt that there needed to be a lot more to make it a complete story and that the potential it laid out was actually delivered on so that it could stand out from all the other apocalyptic short stories.
Rick Gregory as always does a fantastic job.

Loved it!!

I received a code from the author for this book and in return I am writing this review. I really loved this story, it was very well written and moved along at a good pace. There were all kinds of things going on and it kept my attention through out the book. I really liked the ending and it reminded me of the ending of "On The Beach" by Nevile Shute. I give this book a 5 out of 5
