Publisher's summary

Are you willing to settle for an ordinary life? Or do you think you were meant for something better? Something special?"

One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness and obscurity. "You will forever be a child of two worlds, capable of choosing your own destiny. The only question you face is, which path will you chose?"

The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution for the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.

Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

"The wait is over."

Best Star Trek yet!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! This is one of my favorite books ever. I love the idea of looking at Star Trek from the beginning, when the Enterprise crew could have first met. Quinto's narration is exciting and emotional, two things that are not always present in Star Trek of the past.

Which scene was your favorite?

The part of this book that stands out the most to me involves Spock and his relationship with his mother and the emotion that Quinto gives to the scene when Spock's mother dies.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed over and over with things Kirk, in his cocky attitude, says to others, from the bar to the academy, and also with the way Bones responds to others. Best Star Trek yet.

If you like Star Trek, this is a great book!

I tend to disagree with some of the negative comments stated here. I was prepared to HATE Zachary Quinto as narrator, thinking that he could only be Spock in the audiobook, due to his role in the movie. I was very surprised.

His narration, complete with different voices for each character, is flawless. I have listened to other Star Trek audiobooks with other actors, like one with Marina Sirtis as narrator. I couldn't separate her distinctive voice from the story.

As for the story, it follows the movie pretty well. Having additional insight is great, but sometimes is seems TOO much information. I heard sections where the movie said it just fine with fewer words.

I would highly recommend it if you like Star Trek in general or the movie.

Absolutely Great

I became engrossed in this audiobook from the very start. Foster did a remarkable job of bringing out the a depth of character as well as the intrigue of a great story. Quinto transistions his voice between characters seamlessly so you know who is speaking without the he said / she said. I could not wait to hear the next chapter and I did not want it the story to end. If you like any of the Star Trek stories then you will thoroughly enjoy this one.

You will not be disappointed with this selection.

A must read for Star Trek fans

For me this was much better than the movie. Lots more detail and investment in the story. Highly recommend this movie novelization.

Lovers it

Loved it, Zachary did an excellent job . When Zach is not doing a movie, he should read more audible books.

Joy

I'm not very talented at writing reviews, but it must be done. If you like Star Trek, if you have seen and enjoyed the new Star Trek movies, and especially if, like me, you have marveled over their indescribable casting brilliance, then you owe it to yourself to listen to this novelization and production. You will not regret it. All hail the uber-talented and inimitable Zachary Quinto.

A flawless narration by Zachary Quinto

The narration was perfect! The intonations where just the right pitch with no exaggerations:
Scotty’s accent, Nyota Uhura's voice, the good Dr McCoy … Just the right balance. Every personage was excellently voiced.

Sometimes, I even forget it’s the same person doing it all; other times I get moved.

He also brings a great deal of dignity and warmth to the Older version of Spock.

I highly recommend it!!!

Just like the movie but more...

This unabridged version is like listening to a special extended version of the movie. It is well narated and would be an excellent listen before or after you hve watched the movie.
