The last thing he needs is another chore...until a beautiful, brilliant, delightfully tempting maid makes him rethink his position.
Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury's to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne'er-do-wells by night. Now there's a new item on the list. Highland laird Conor McTiernay had always dreamed of an enduring love. But the reality of women who desired him only for his title and lands made him swear off marriage forever. For Scotsman Iain MacEnroy, Emily's high-tone accent is a bitter reminder of the oppressive regime he left behind. The last thing he needs is to be burdened by the needs of a beautiful, blue-eyed Englishwoman.

This is one of the best books I have listened to in almost a year and I listen to about 2-3 a week!
The characters in this book actually have conversations, there is little misunderstandings between the two of them (at least not the man made ones that leave you smashing you head in)!
There is an evil character but he doesn't take up much time and doesn't turn the whole last half of the book into fighting about him!
The feelings are real, they grow together in them and there is moderate sex scenes that are pleasant and sometimes funny.
The whole book has witty remarks and it is just a wonderfully written romance novel as I really don't like that SO MANY historical romance books have either so much war scenes or such that take away from the romance between the two main characters lives!
I read romance for romance...I am not a man who loves to read about battles, evil-evil villains doing bad things constantly, I really wish more authors would write in this style! Bravo Vicky and Priscilla it was outstanding!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who likes slow narrators and drawn out stories
Would you ever listen to anything by Vicky Dreiling again?
probably only if it was a free sample
How could the performance have been better?
Could have talked at normal speed, not so, so slow
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointment
This was entertaining. I liked the story until the last part of the book. At that point it fell apart. The unfolding of the uncle/guardian storyline was extremely disappointing as was the ending. I also found the narrator didn't differentiate between voices enough - even between men and women. I'd have to give this a 3.5.
Good dialogue between characters made this particularly good. Sex was spicey enough but infrequent. I didn't miss it because the story line was quite engaging. Narration was good, especially true as there are quite a few characters in this book.
