Publisher's summary

Loreley Jones, daughter of the governor of the British Colony of Antigua, is orphaned when a hurricane sinks the ship taking her and her family from London to the Caribbean. After washing up on the shores of the Pirate's Republic of Nassau, she is sold into slavery and her virginity is auctioned off. The highest bidder is the notoriously sadistic Gideon Graves, captain of the pirate ship Jezebel, who holds Loreley against her will and repeatedly assaults her, until she is rescued by the Jezebel's quartermaster, Sebastian MacIssac.

Sebastian promises Loreley freedom, but only if she disguises herself as a man and works off the cost of her passage aboard the Jezebel. She soon discovers, however, that the freedom she finds at sea is more attractive than the gilded cage of her former life, and even death can't keep her from fulfilling her destiny.

Jezebel’s Daughter

I really liked the story, the characters, and the setting however, I didn’t like the way it ended. The narrator was good. The ending was disappointing.

I LOVE This Book - I Demand Sequel Now!

I was swept in immediately and wanted to listen to the whole book in one sitting. However, at 10+ hours, it wasn't plausible. So I broke it up into two monster sessions.

I really enjoyed this book, the well thought out plot was really good. The performance was very good as well.

If you like historical romance I think you will like this book. The difference between this historical romance and any others I've read, is the location. It starts out on a ship, a bit of time on land and after that, the main characters reside on the ships for a majority of the time. They are pirates and that is what pirates do.

Note: There are some graphic "mature" disturbing scenes in the beginning of the book, there is violence throughout the book. If you don't want to hear about what happens after a young girl is sold into slavery, this may not be the book for you. That is my warning.

As I've said, repeatedly, I really enjoyed the book, again a well-thought-out plot. A unique situation and descriptions of beautiful landscapes all around the world.

This is a nice change for the romance fans that are not into vampires, shifters and/or the multitude of fantasy books that come up when you do a contemporary romance search. It is pleasant and awful, the refreshing cast of characters (well performed by PJ Morgan) and a writer who knows her stuff, Juliet MacLeod. *I received this book in exchange for my review,

I don't often do this, but I recommend this book highly. If you're a fan of historical
romance books, you should get this a shot.

My only complaint is that the end is a bit of a cliffhanger. I really hope that there will be a sequel (SOON) because I really enjoyed it.

Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchased a lot of books by authors that I am faithful to. I also have the opportunity to review books in all genres, many that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and narrators. Thanks!

Great book.

I really enjoyed this listen. Wish there was an epilogue or continuing story. I believe there is a lot more that could be written. Worth a credit.

Not my kind of book.

Writer has an excellent turn of phrase and the story line was well written. I did enjoy the imagery of the "pirate life" of the 1700's. However, I prefer my romances with a bit more "happy". The ending was too depressing for my liking. After so much angst, where was her reward?

Terrific

I read/listen to many books which is one reason why I choose to delve into Audible Escape books. I save money. Pure luck that I came across The Jezebel's Daughter, and I am so glad I did. This book does not have the normal formula for romance novels. There is heartbreak, death, strong friendships and love, even some voodoo. Some of the content is brutal truth of an era of pirates and brothels and slaves and a history many would like ignore. Ms. MacLeod did an amazing job making this story one I couldn't put down. Her command of vocabulary made this story interesting and kept my attention throughout. Many unexpected turns and twists of the story.

Additionally, the narrator P.J.Morgan, was new for me. She did dialects, male and female voices and was able to intone emotion to make me see the characters in my mind. It was like going to the movies. I will search for more of her books.

My biggest disappointment is that this is the only book I found by this author. Please, please do not give up the pen, you have a gift that needs to be shared.

NOT romance or Audible Escape Material

This is a tragic drama that is so drawn out, you lose all sense of the story.

*************Spoiler alert**************

She suffers - he saves her, they dance around a bit, get together, he gets caught and hung, she ends up alone and pregnant.

Wish I could unhear this story.
