Publisher's Summary

As a child, Jackston Forbes made a promise to lovely - and pushy - Lizelle Menzies.

A man of his word, Jackston never forgot that promise. Through the years of experience and growth, Jackston has become a powerful warrior, now returning to his home in the highlands to assume his place as his father's heir.

But along the way he meets a young woman who will test the strength of his vow to marry Lizelle, and when he discovers the brutal and petty woman Lizelle has become, it becomes a difficult choice for him - will he remain true to a childhood vow or will he follow his heart?

The beginning of the Forbes legacy

This is a delightful novella and hopefully a prequel to more stories about the Forbes family and their history. As with all of Kathryn Le Veque's books, the characters are strongly developed and their personalities are such that it's easy to become emotionally invested in them and their outcome. This is the first time I believe that I've listened to Nick Cracknell as a narrator. I must say, I most definitely give him 5 stars for his wonderful performance in bringing the story and characters to life. I look forward to hearing more of his work. This is an awesome audiobook and easy to recommend, especially to any who are unsure if they will enjoy the audible experience.

What a great paring for this novella

This is such a good story and Nick Cracknell did an absolutely awesome job! Really hope this story continues with Jackstons son Dunnan and the narrator still Nick Cracknell. Well done!

I really liked this. I wish it was longer.

The Narrator sounds a lot like Carey Ewles. He was very easy to listen to.
