Publisher's Summary

A novella companion to New York Times best-selling author Maya Banks' Shades of Gray.

Softly at Sunrise takes place in a gap of time that occurs in Shades of Gray. Reading this novella will in no way spoil Shades of Gray, though there are some brief mentions of events that occur in that book.

Rachel Kelly has traveled a long, hard road in her journey back to her husband, Ethan, and the Kelly family. Now, as she and Ethan are poised to move into their new home, safe behind the walls of the Kelly compound, Rachel wonders if she’ll finally be free of the ghosts that have haunted her for so long and if she’ll step into the sun after a past steeped in darkness.

"With love to every single reader who read and loved 'The Darkest Hour' and wanted to know more about Ethan and Rachel and how they were doing down the road. This is for you."

HATED the new narrator!

Whatever reason they had for changing the narrator, it was a bad decision....at least get someone that didn't make them sound like backwoods hicks and wimps to boot!
I am seriously considering just buying the books from now on because I can't stand this narrator!

Disappointed!!!

What did you like best about Softly at Sunrise? What did you like least?

The update on Ethan and Rachel. The only thing I didn't like was the narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

The update on Ethan and Rachel and the fact that they finally are getting back to a happy life.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Adam Paul?

I don't understand why in the middle of the series the narrator would be changed! Adam Paul is horrible and made the audio book a major disappointment. If he continues to narrate this series I will not purchase another audiobook. I will check out the book from the library!!!

Was Softly at Sunrise worth the listening time?

Not with Adam Paul as a narrator...

Any additional comments?

Please switch back to Harry Berkeley

Bring Harry back.

Adam Paul is not the right person for this reading, or any KGI reading. It has ruined the KGI series for me. The guy all sound girly half of the time. Adam does not give the characters the same emotion that Harry did.

Really enjoyed the story

What did you love best about Softly at Sunrise?

I really enjoyed the storyline and update on Ethan & Rachel. The school incident was well written. I Missed the prior narrator, I liked Adam Paul and remembered him from the Breathless Trilogy, but really missed Harry Berkeley as he brought the characters to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Which character – as performed by Adam Paul – was your favorite?

Like his normal voice, the change is Character, wasn't as good as the prior narrator, Harry Berkeley

I loved it...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely..it took a while to get used to the new narrator, but I got so absorbed in the story that he faded into the background.

Who was your favorite character and why?

PJ, definitely. She was an aboslute female in this book..strong, fragile, girly, manly..all wrapped into one. She brought what happened to her to the forefront, avoided it, dealt with it her way and on her terms. She was all over the map and it was wonderful.

Now, Cole would be next. He was so sensitive and manly all at the same time. He never stepped into her world without acknowldeging her for who and what she was..their courtship (what little there was) and handling of the event were the best parts of the book.

Which character – as performed by Adam Paul – was your favorite?

PJ, definitely. He didn't try too hard to be female and since this was PJ we're talking about, it seemed to fit.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire rape scene from beginning to when she was in the hospital was so emotional for me. There were times when I had to stop because my emotions were too wired. It was upsetting, disturbing, and troubling all at the same time. I didn't think I'd be able to finish it, but I had to step away for a minute and then come back. It was such an integral part of the story and PJ and cole's relationship that I could not stop continuing to read the book.

Any additional comments?

I am torn between this one and the Rio story as my favorite. I listened to it twice because I could not pull away from PJ and Cole. While the change in narrator was startling, he fell into the background and the story took over.

Great book

The voice narrator did a good job but not with the females vices. He made them sound not like females but like he was making fun of women's voices.

Other then that I loved it.

narrator drove me crazy

Any additional comments?

the narration was really distracting - especially when he tried to act in character - made me cringe - worth listening to if you are doing the entire series though

This narrator is PAINFUL to listen to!!!

Would you try another book from Maya Banks and/or Adam Paul?

Maya Banks, yes! Adam Paul, HELL NO!!! He ruined this book! He reads like a learner!!! I think my ears bled.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ethan of course. Love those alpha males!!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He read this like a robot! But the robot might have sounded much better. No emotion and he droned!!! This narrator sounded liked he was learning to read. Plus his accent was terrible. I'm from the south so this accent shouldn't have bothered me but man this guy was terrible!!!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Softly at Sunrise?

No scene, cut the narrator. Wish I never purchased the recording and now I see he did several other Maya Banks novels. I'm shutterring how emotionless he's going to sound in the next book and PJ horrible experience. And that TWANG!!!

Any additional comments?

This narrator destroyed this story. Hard to even follow story due this his horrible performance! It would be better to read this yourself and not listen to this narrator. He ruins the story and it's hard to hear the actual story line because it's terribly hard to get past this idiot narrator. Maya should be very angry because if anyone new listened to this they would never buy another of her books.

Worst southern accent, especially the mom

Would you consider the audio edition of Softly at Sunrise to be better than the print version?

no

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Adam Paul?

Go back to Harry Berkeley or have Mr. Paul drop the southern accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Rachel's protection of the children in her classroom.

Any additional comments?

I've listened to other books narrated by Mr. Paul and enjoyed his narration. Was disappointed by this effort.
