He promised me all he was able to offer - each moment as it came - but it would never be enough.

I was a woman on the edge, shaken and shattered after a breakup that felt like it tore my entire world apart. My best friend, sick of watching me drown in misery and melancholy, harassed me until I agreed to go with her on a weeklong wilderness retreat. Nowhere in the glossy brochure did it say anything about the fact I was going to have to battle the insufferable but deliciously rugged trail guide instead of the elements. The brochure also forgot to mention that when you left civilization behind, there was no place to pack your inhibitions and fears.

My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make. I slept with my student, a senior in high school. Multiple times. I had multiple orgasms. In multiple positions. I slept with my student and I enjoyed it. I slept with my student and I'd do it all over again if I could turn back time. My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal's office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.

Everything done in darkness will eventually be brought into the light. I ran, but all it did was keep me one step ahead of my past. I tried to start over; new name, new identity. But you can't change your soul. A fresh start at college was just what I needed. For a while, it worked. I was the party girl, the one who seemed confident, but it was a lie. When guys kissed me - I felt only pain. When they touched me - nothing but fear. Deep inside, every girl wants to be the beauty in the story, to find someone who will see you as their world. But the truth? I was the beast. And as much as I wanted redemption, I wasn't fool enough to think I'd ever get it.
Until he walked into my life. I wasn't prepared to fall for someone. My scars were too deep, the wounds too raw. But he offered me peace, he offered me security. I should have known it was just another lie - I should have known that falling in love with my professor was a bad idea. But I was powerless to stop myself from falling. And he was powerless to catch me. Because the darkness finally caught up to me, and as fate would have it, a cruel twist almost bled me dry. But I'm stronger than I knew. I'm stronger than you think. You think you know my story, but you don't - after all everyone has Shame in their lives - and I'm no longer afraid to show you mine.
Not her usual style. Interesting but more like a thriller, though a bit predictable at times.
I loved book 1-2. This was much darker and intense. Fantastic story. The voices were fantastic perfect for each character.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! The narration was great and the story was dark and suspenseful. If you've read the earlier books in this series, you won't want to meet this one. It has a darker feel than the earlier books but Van Dyken never fails to deliver a compelling story with captivating characters.

The night of the masquerade ball when Lisa and Tristan don't know each other's identity.
