Publisher's Summary

From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively enjoyable as in New York Times and number one international best-selling author Christina Lauren's (Beautiful Bastard, Dating You/Hating You) new romance.

Marriages of convenience are so...inconvenient.

Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway - until he admits his student visa has expired and he's in the country illegally.

Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

I loved it.

I loved the accents by the narrator. Loved the visual descriptions of music. Charming and sweet. Calvin was an adorable male lead.

I need an Encore

Let’s be honest I’ve been a fan girl for Christina Lauren since B.B. and they have never disappointed, however I am disappointed now, because I am in serious need of an encore. I have had a book boyfriend in Will since he was first mentioned in their books but he has now be replaced by a Beautiful Irish man. Colin is seriously everything that I would want in a mate, he’s loving, kind, encouraging, faithful, and even when his dreams come true and he could have anyone he still wants his girl! I love this and I need to know what happens after ...

This was an easy read, pretty quick you won’t want to put it down until you finish it! The narrator is amazing and truly does bring this story to life, and the story itself is just so real! More than ever before I believe this is their best book yet and they have truly grown as writers! This book is realistic and heartwarming, and seriously swoon worthy!

Book was really good, but ending was lackluster

I don’t understand why you write a really good book to not give people a good detailed ending .....gurrrrr😑Makes the rest of the book and the wonderful writing kind of seem like it was a waste.

Don't do it

The story line in this book seems great. I love a good hearted romance in a book. the book itself didn't seem too but but I was completely thrown off by the narrator. She tries to give each character their own voice but her narrating over all is just awful. Please just buy the ebook and save yourself from listening.

Cute story

Fun and light listen. The narrators’s accent is distracting. Only one of the characters is Irish but all are read with a slight irish accent. Made it hard to tell who was speaking sometimes.

Narrator’s Accents were almost too distracting

I had to actively work to get past the narrator’s accent, I think she was a native Irish dialect playing a bad American accent. The male protagonist is Irish, so maybe that’s why they cast her ? But when 90% of the book is supposed to be a woman from Iowa, I really wish they got someone that could do an American accent (or use someone with that native accent).

As an American is just extremely distracting and obvious when someone is trying to mimic your accent, and ends up sounding like she’s always asking a question and putting emphasis on syllables in really odd places to the point where it was hard to understand the word sometime.

I wouldn’t buy another book narrated by her, unfortunately.

Christina Lauren does it again!

First of all, I love Christina Lauren! They right great stories! I usually love the story so much, I buy it in audio to bring it to life. This story was very captivating and had me hooked, but the narrator must be from Ireland or some other country, because her accent came out in just more places than just Calvin’s speaking parts. I didn’t love it. But I didn’t hate it. The story was enough to keep me listening. Overall, I would’ve been just fine with the book alone. But great story and I will probably re-read it over and over!

Narrator's cadence killed it for me...

I am a huge Christina Lauren FANGIRL! I have read and Audibled BEAUTIFUL BASTARD like a million times.

It was another satisfying fake marriage turned relationship romance set in the heart of a Broadway musical. The writing and characters were strong which I've come to expect and always enjoy from the duo and there were the usual 'lol” moments - though not often as their previous books.
I started out with the written word but switch to Audible when I couldn't keep my eyes open and was so excited because it was narrated by K.C. Sheridan who is one of my favs... BUT not this time around!!!

I will give Sheridan props for her Irish accent – it was at times very Saxy! Although, I found it bled into the other characters voices as well esp the heroin. What made me stop listening after only a third of the way in was her over produced cadence. The di-tonic intervals, that is, the ascent and fall of one tone or in this case one sentence, were too pronounced and at times did not fit the emotional tones of normal speech.

Sweet Love Story, Odd Narration

The love story was sweet and I loved how authentic the characters where. The narrator was very good at performing the dialog and accents, but the story is written in 1st person and she READS you the story instead of TELLING the story - the dissonance bothered me, but might not bother everyone.

Disappointed

Started out so good, then it let me down with some stupid things going on. Sorry, but I don't play at that kind of stupidity.
